Post-Interview Communication

Does everyone's Brigham letter say they "definitely intend to rank you highly on our match list?"

My Brigham letter said exactly that a few years ago... I ranked them #2... matched at my #3.

Has anyone had any post interview feed back from Penn State, besides the generic email they send several days after the interview?

Nebraska - Email from chief residents offering to clear up any questions, stating that they felt highly of my application.

Got the same letter from BWH. Did everyone get an email from the chair of UCSF?

I got the UCSF email and yes it seems that it at least somewhat selective as my friend made no mention of it, although the text itself seemed rather generic. Got a nice email from Penn too and an update from BIDMC. No phone calls.

WashU PD sent an email today saying I was fit for their program and they hope I consider them.

Anyone hear anything from UTSW or Baylor?

Seems like everyone got the same generic email from BWH saying they will be ranked highly. Anyone got a phone call from BWH? Heard they did it last year...

Phone call for PD and Chairman at Brigham over the last 2 wks and phone call from Hopkins PD this week.

Hopefully ppl are not changing their ROLs based on these...

Lucky! What did the Hopkins PD say?

It was a follow-up to my "will rank you highly" email to see if I had any questions. She was cautious about giving much information on where they would be ranking me

UCSF I think sent out 2 different emails. One from the chair that appears to be selective, and one from the PD that looks like it might be to everybody? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I could see how a personal phone call could make you feel unique, perhaps to the extent that you'd talk yourself into thinking you are truly ranked at the top of the programs rank list. I'm sure that's why programs do it and I imagine a fair number of people do indeed change their ROL based on these phone calls.

Got a call from Stanford PD and another email of interest from Hopkins. I do agree with Kazuyma, becuase I'll admit that the slew of luck I have come across has influenced me to rank Hopkins #1, for example

i found myself getting caught up in the lovefest, until i remembered that it should make no difference in your rank list. unless their supposed love somehow makes you prefer one program over the other all of a sudden.

wth i got no call but at my interview he acted like he REALLY wanted me there. these people are full of it. they try to tell us not to play them game and tell them we're their #1 but they play the same crap with us. can't wait til this is over.

Email of interest from Hopkins? What did it say? "We are interested in you"?

Yeah it's very easy to get carried away and after such contacts I entertain the thought of ranking that program #1 but this fades away quickly (except of course if it was already #1). My friends and I always joke about how things might be very different if the call also included a higher starting salary (like most other job offers) then we would enter into real negotiations lol. It must suck for the programs not having much control except for love notes and phone calls.

Did you also get an email? or just a call?

I got the "based on the quality of your interview, we plan to rank you" e-mail on the same day as the interview...but, I think that almost everyone got this and that you're referring to a more recent e-mail.

What I'm wondering is how many people do you think that they are calling? If they have spots for 25...are they calling the top 50? Or 75...or 100. Maybe they're strengthening their rank list this way...or maybe it's a legit recruiting move aimed towards the top 25. Very hard to tell.

What do you guys think?

Thanks to the people who PMed me responses about UCSF. Sorry for posting a very similar question, but has anyone gotten one but not the other email?

Call. what about you...and what did the recent email say?

Nothing. I was just wondering if you also got an email saying "You will be ranked highly". That is what WaveEquation said he got... Did you get that and the call? or just the post-interview email and the call. I've heard that they are not sending that "Ranking you highly" email this year and just doing the calls. Do you think that is the case?

No, I didn't get the "ranking you highly" e-mail...I just got the post-interview "based on the quality of your interview and application, we will be ranking you on our list" e-mail sent the same day as the interview. To me it didn't mean that much since that meant I could be #1 or #130 on their list. Maybe they only dropped the bottom 20 of 150.

Anybody get a love letter from the AMA?

Yes. I appreciate the personalized, hand-written message on the back of the envelope. 😍

The AMA sent out this letter wishing a successful match, came from Chicago, false alarm since I thought it was from an actual program.

That is the exact letter I speak of... Someone hand-wrote "Good Luck in the Upcoming match" on my envelope. Nice touch. Made me want to donate to the AMA... evil geniuses!

Since it was a generous touch, I will not donate to the AMA. I wouldn't want to undermine their philanthropy.

So did no one hear anything from MCW? I only ask because I know they have sent e-mails in past years. Thanks for any responses.

Anyone hear from SLU? VCU? Anything else from Baystate besides the generic "you're a very competitive applicant"? ... yeah... competitive.. 🙄

Nothing from either SLU or VCU. I just remember the PD at SLU telling me he'd give me the job the day I interviewed if he wouldn't lose his job. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside until I several of my buddies mentioned he said the same thing during their interviews.

Perhaps he couldn't resist and did end up losing his job because there is an Classified Ad in the back of February's Anesthesiology pg 36A. Apparently SLU is actively looking for a new program director for the department of anesthesiology and critical care. I wonder what really happened, he seemed like a really personal guy and a good resident advocate.

Yeah, that PD told me something similar... "I'd love to have you here right now and you are a great and very articulate guy"... I had that lovey-dovey feeling, as well ... till, I heard similar stories like you heard.

They did mention they were looking for a new PD and the current one would be shifting more towards education. However, I didn't think that it would be a sudden shift in position without actually finding a legit replacement, so maybe something did happen and the guy lost his job... not sure. No wonder he didn't reply to any of my emails where I posed questions... surprised that the program didn't send out updates, either. Maybe I should've emailed the Chair.

I gotta say, the residents who were at the dinner, were not exactly hyped about the program. However, I liked the city, so I ranked it in my top 4.
