Usually card is more formal. But if your interviewee gave you an email address and said "email me if you have any questions," it's probably okay to do e-mail. Either way, this should not affect your outcome at the school. (not accusing you, just puttin it out there)

professor, ie PhD, MD someone older than you, etc I send a letter.

Student interviewer, or if the doc etc gives you his email address and sounds cool about recieving email than I do the email.

thats my rule of thumb.

Emails are informal, but you can guarentee that they are read, that is there not just tossed into your file without anyone reading it.

My rule of thumb:

If my file is going to committee soonish, I send email. Otherwise I send card.

The "proper" etiquette is to send a card...but that's not necessary IMO for medical school. The business world on the other hand....

i say email regardless. it's not hard to go to the medical school website and search for the interviewer (if it wasnt a student). plus, with email they get read and are easier to put in your file. i really don't believe all these ppl that say thank you emails aren't helpful. i would say it doesn't hurt if you don't write one. but, if you write one, i think they have to put it in your file to be reviewed. if it's a good enough one ie not just i had a nice time at interview. thank you for taking time out and more like i enjoyed discussing blahblah at interview and the medical school impressed me as a whole because of blah blah etc, it seems like you have real interest in the place and i think it puts you ahead of the person who interviews and never writes etc to show interest granted u both have same stats and same quality of interview.

Was wondering what the proper post-interview etiquette is: card or e-mail. Thanks!

personal telegrams work best. 👍 they will NEVER forget you. i sugget those clown ones
