Just wondering if anyone has received additional feedback from programs in the southern CA area besides the immediate post-interview thank you letter/email. I realize programs are still interviewing, but I'm just curious.

Also, if you did receive a post-interview thank you letter/email, could you specify the program? Just wanted to gauge which programs are sending them out. I realize the prevailing sentiment is to take everything with a grain of salt, but I think any feedback places you in a more likely position to be further considered than no feedback. Btw, I've only received a basic thank you letter via snail mail from USC. Thanks.

Hey-

I can tell you that UCLA/Harbor and UCLA/SFV have been quiet in my neck of the woods 😕 . But, its California - I don't think that they have to /are willing to put out as much effort as programs in "other" places 🙄 . My .02.

well, if you r looking for diverse academic trainig, uc davis will be your choice. IF you r looking for county settings, then ucla-harbor will be over your two other choices (ucla-kern and usc). If you are looking for a chance to work with upper middle class patients, then cedars-sinai. It depends on what you are looking for. But UC davis is by itself on your list, the remaining is probably ucla-harbor vs. cedars-sinai.....

an academic training would be nice but i believe ucla-harbor offers some of that with electives in ucla-npi in the fourth year. also i think torrance is a better location than sacramento. both programs seem great though and i feel i would be happy at either.

also i was asked why not UCI? perhaps one could ask UCI why not me. i did apply there but no invite as of yet. i am an IMG and am extremely happy i got 7 interviews in california. i have heard of IMGs getting invites in ucla-sfv and one img with extensive research getting an interview at ucla and ucsd. dunno if they would match there. psych is getting more competive and i am a lil worried if i can match at either davis or harbor as they both r desirible.

I interviewed at UCLA Harbor and have several friends who know the program well.

Everyone spoke VERY highly of the program and loved the attendings and residents.

I can only report very nice things about the program--one resident (from a neighboring and very prestigious psych residency) even went so far as to say it was "California Psychiatry's best kept secret". (not anymore, I guess 😀 )

Oh I was just surprised since you seemed to get your pick of interviews in so-cal other than a couple and just thought UCI was on par with most of them-Its just Ido not read much of anything on UCI on this board and from the beginning I was interested due to good word of mouth and the best locale in the USA

Has anyone received any post-interview feedback from UCI? Thanks.

hey ebtg, the only thing i have received so far was a good response to email i sent to an interviewer at UCSF...(i know its not socal). i recently did UCI and havent sent letters yet. im debating sending emails now to programs b/c there is a higher chance of getting a response...lemme know if you hear anything. by the way, how does one afford housing in orange co or san diego??

I did receive solicited feedback from UCI recently. Seemed similar to drmistga's feedback, though his was from a different program. Nice but nonspecific email.
As far as housing in socal, seems like it would be more affordable than sanfran, perhaps orange county more so than san diego, per salary comparison website. There are several affordable beach communities such as Huntingtion Beach, Long Beach, Seal Beach, etc. or if you prefer more inland, the housing near Irvine is more affordable, per friends who live in the area and UCI residents. Hope this helps.

got a nice email postinterview from ucsd addressing my interests. dunno if everyone gets that but i havent gotten many of those from pd's...😕

The few email/letters I have received have been a generic form letter so I think it says a lot if they personalize a letter/email. You stood out in some way so kudos to you!

"some" way is the key phrase...i have different interests and i am always sure to address them at e/ program. at times i think it has hurt me but i do always end up with someone answering if there are indeed options for my interests. that may have been why i got a personalized response...
besides ucsd may just do that anyway. but thanks for the encouragement, im starting to get disparaged over my top choices...
are you interested in the program?
