Out of curiosity, has anyone had any contact from a program after interviewing there? While it may be technically illegal to tell a candidate where they are ranked, I have heard (from current residents) that PDs may call and let you know that they "think of you very highly".

I had a couple of programs send me a letter thanking me for interviewing there, but nothing along the lines of telling me where they rank me or what not.

dont expect it. btw it means NOTHING if they do; ive heard of people i know getting "the Call" and subsequently not matching at that place.

I personally had PD's send or call to tell me that they were placing me at the top of their list and I didn't match there.

You should take what they tell you with a grain of salt and don't prioritize your rank list based on what they say.

yeah...i think phone calls/letters from PD's mean that they are going to rank you in the top 5 or maybe even 10...but def not #1 or #2.

there is no "place" that you can estimate you'll be in just because you got a call. What are PD's doing? they are making sure they dont go down on the rank list by encouraging folks to rank THEM highly. Youre not being considered in this senario. If you really aren't already reasonablly in the running you obviously are less likely to get the call. But does that mean youre in the top 5? 10? 20? No telling. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for the info...was that this year or in previous years...I've heard that the ACGME is trying to clamp down on such practices, so I was wondering if it had happened this year. Thanks
