Are any of you receiving post-interview letters/calls/emails from PDs telling you how interested they are in you? On the psych forum, some are receiving unsolicited "we think you would do well here" type letters from PDs.

Additionally, if you are not receiving these letters should we fret? Does this mean you are low on the program's ROL? Does any one know if some PDs make it policy not to communicate with applicants. I just finished interviewing (applying for psych) and am now starting to send out thank you emails to all programs and have indicated to my #1 that they are #1. Will send cards soon too so I keep refreshing their memory...it's been almost 2 months since my first interview.

Any in put would be great!

I've heard back from every program I interviewed at except one. I got two calls today. (Im applying to psych too)

EDTA: I've also asked questions and continued contact since interviews.

And the below post is correct, UNC specifically says you won't hear back from them (excpet maybe that letter we all get after the interview)

I read on another post--from last year and AFTER the match-- from an applicant who had received no letters or other indications of interest after the interviews and prior to the match. Even after he/she sent a "You're #1" letter to their top choice, he/she got no response. Still, they matched at their #1 program....So don't make this another cause to worry. Some programs send them and some don't.

Not surprizing. Psych docs are slimy. Wouldn't trust them as far as I could spit.

After reading the never ending angst on these forums about this, I'm setting the folowing for my EM program:

1. I will continue to give each applicant my card and e-mail and ask them to e-mail me with any questions, telling them I will answer within a couple of days.
2. I will tell them that we will not send them a courtesy thank you letter, but consider it as given.
3. I will suggest that if they want to tell us that we are their no 1 (or high, whatever) send us an email.
4. Thank you letters from them are strictly optional and the failure to write us 1,3,10 or whatever will not be viewed negatively.

Thanks BKN, please say a prayer for me, I need a bunch of prayers going out just in case 😛

And, remember - post interview feedback and recruiting is GOOD - <hypnotizing you> Will give feedback to students <you're getting sleepy... very sleepy> Will tell applicants their exact place on list <you're following my commands> Will answer all emails honestly and not lead applicants on...

BKN, this is great! I have LOVED the programs who have been up front with their process on the interview day. Especially the thank-you note part. Although I think that if you state it the way you did above ("optional") everyone will still write you thank-you notes because they think they're still supposed to and everyone else is. The programs that have earned my undying love have said "DO NOT send thank you notes". 😍

I wouldn't fret! Remember that Psych. is, as a general rule, less competitive; therefore, the programs will be a bit more over-zealous in their recruitment, than will their counterparts in some of the other specialties. Besides, from what I'm seeing on the psych. forum, we're all getting pretty much the same things from the same schools! Contrary to what was insinuated above, I think that most of the Psych. PDs are attempting to follow proper protocol (i.e. good manners).

Well I considered saying exactly that, but then I stared in P's avatars blood shot eyes. I woke up later--I don't know what happened but there's a tattoo that say "my precious-s-s" in a very odd place.
