Post-Interview Thank You Letter: Write or Not to Write?

What is the consensus on this? I have an interview coming up, but I'm just not sure if this is truly a necessary step to take. I would think it would come across as 'annoying', but most people tend to say to do it.

If you're even contemplating it, then just write one. It's not hard. It can't hurt. But it can't really help you get in either. Just American courtesy. Do it out of courtesy not as a miracle strategy to get in. Asking this is like contemplating whether or not you should say bless you when someone sneezes.

I wrote a very simple thank you letter, making sure to specificlly mention the names of the doctors who interviewed me. Always say please and thank you is my rule...
