How do people usually write these? I have some new grades and have become involved in 2 new activities. Additionally, I really want to tie all these in and mention that I want to go to X SOM because they have a similar focus/values. Does anyone have an example of a good update letter I can possibly use as a template that shows my new activities and further expresses my interest in the school?

Thanks!

New grades are worth an update. Your start new activities are not, unless you have interviewed at an needy school that likes to see candidates grovel.

Also make sure that the schools you want to notify actually accept updates.

Your application showed that you're interested in the school. They get it.

Is it ok if the update is just like a paragraph long? Or should I go in detail and re-state some of the reasons why I want to attend the school, etc? (maybe I can mention something like "after seeing other schools, I know that X SOM is unique because xyz"?)

These only work when they are at least five pages long and contain both charts and graphs.

Sorry to bump this old thread but quick question regarding this. If I'm still waiting for a decision and received new grades (A- in upper level organic chem class) as well as have recent a second author paper, is it fine to update post-interview or is it still meaningless? My GPA is very heavily upward trend (2.6 to a 3.7 final two years and cumulative 3.3) so I feel as though updating with a high grade in an upper level organic chem class will help show/ continue to reinforce this, but I don't want to send anything if its meaningless.

Post interview updates are a whole different animal. Definitely important, and yours sounds to be of substance.

Get it to them ASAP before your application goes to committee so there’s a chance it could help you out.

Good luck!!
