Hi, I was wondering when I should start getting worried post interview? I was very fortunate to receive a couple interviews back in early November, and according to cycle track, these schools have offered both waitlists and acceptances, but I unfortunately have heard radio silence so far.

I recognize that the holidays are wrapping up and people may have taken some time off - but I am still curious as to when is a good time to start feeling worried.

There are two peaks for MD/PhD acceptances, one in December and the other in February. By the end of February, about 70% of MD/PhD ACs are given. Per AMCAS traffic rules, on March 15, all programs must have at least as many Acceptances (currently active) out as they have first-year class seats. By that time, 80-85% of the acceptances are given, then is the musical chairs game begins. Every year, there are a few applicants who hoard acceptances. Every year, the cycle has about three dozens of applicants with >8 MD/PhD acceptances. This practice is unfortunate because it clogs the system of giving additional acceptances. Over 95% of MD/PhD ACs are given by the end of first 10 days of May.

Thank you for the quick response! Do you think hearing radio silence is any cause for concern?

Not at this point in the cycle, if you have interviewed at least 5 MD/PhD programs and if you haven't received post-interview rejections. After March 15, most applicants who will get in receive at least one acceptance. Have frank conversations with program directors, and send an update in early February and an email of interest in early April.

Awesome! Thank you 🙂
