Hi all,

I just took the MCAT this morning, and am worried. I was always pretty strong in the PS department, but I had a passage today that really through me off. I couldn't remember one of the key formulas, and as a result had trouble with the concepts. It was all anxiety too, it was an easy concept, I just kept staring at the computer. I think it related to several of those questions too. The rest of the section wasn't too bad, but I was short on time, so I was rushing.

I didn't feel so great about verbal either. My bio section I felt pretty good about, except some of the orgo concepts.

Anyways, basically, I'm worried, and I feel like I need to go ahead an sign up for another exam soon, if I want to get in on this cycle (and I do).

I really wish we could get our scores back sooner.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but it seems like a lot of people have the same problem as you. I've read about many people on SDN feeling that they did bad right after the test, but it seems to be normal and they usually do better than they expected 😀

Thanks Tman, I am just so mad at myself for (a), not being able to think clearly and (b) spending so much time on it! it really hurt me. and i kept thinking about it through verbal.
UGH!

How did you do on your AAMC CBTs? Test 11 will be your best indicator. I'm not going to lie, if you did poorly on your practices, then your gut could be correct. Miracles are rare on this test. On the other hand, if you were getting >30s, stayed calm during the test, and answered to the best of your ability, then you probably just have some post-test jitters. Good luck!

I did ok on 11, lower than I wanted, I got a 29 on it, but all the others I was above a 30. I really think I messed up on PS. I honestly had no time to read one of the later passages and ended up just guessing on a few of them without reading it! URGH!

Hum. Well maybe this will help.. I got a 29 on AAMC 11 as well, 8,10,11. I knew I had messed up on PS so i didn't think to much of the 8. On my real test (May 7th), I got a 10, 10, 11. Almost exact other than the 2 point increase in PS!

I wish you the best!! Try not to stress too much. I had nights where I would lay in bed thinking I got a 26 or 27 and I ended up doing fine!

thank you! thank you! you felt like you messed up on the PS during the test?

I am planning on signing up for an August date, just in case. Would that be presumptuous?

Yeah, you should wait until you get your results and give yourself a break. Are you planning to apply this cycle?

yeah. i'm going a bit crazy right now. i'm actually considering taking a kaplan course and then retaking it in august (i know i'm nuts, but i'm an older applicant, and really would prefer not to wait an entire year). i'd rather spend the money now and do well, then wait. i figure if I was doing relatively well, the kaplan course could only improve my scores, right?

I took the test this morning too, and literally i sent this all in a text message (almost word for word) to my friend afterwards. physics was BRUTAL. but everyone feels this way (look at the thread for today's test) so likely it will be curved accordingly. but yeah i feel exactly the same way, i got stuck on one passage and before i knew it i was out of time. I didnt read two whole passages (just went through the questions and made educated guesses about them... but let's be real... how well does that work) so I too am quite panicked over this test. I am def signing up for the august test as well even though i am pretty bummed to do it. best of luck, we are all in the same boat

Well.. I felt like I messed up the PS for AAMC 11, not the real thing. I finished each section of my real test feeling extremely confident.

Don't panic yet ... I took the exam today and thought the physic section was a joke it was so hard. How do you prepare for something that does not relate well to the practice exams? ...

Anyway ... By the other post in the "Official" we are not alone ... Lets hope that there is a huge curve and they had some of the "test" passages/questions that they said could be in there.

You're not alone. Whoever wrote the PS section definitely has a sick sense of humor. I'm not so upset at myself, but at AAMC. I got a 10 on the PS section of practice test 11, and I felt like the real deal was not representative at ALL of any of the practice tests. Maybe I'm wrong, and just didn't get it...but seeing how everyone else responded to it, I don't feel so bad.

Just take a breather and know that it's done, and if you didn't get as good as you wanted, try try again. I get your POV as well. I don't know how much older you are, but I'm going on 25 and really don't want to wait another year either.

Go for a run, or go get drunk. 🙂

And good luck!

Hey last year when i took it for the first time, I started off with a really hard Physics one knew nothing, spent too much time on it and this messed up my entire exam and I bombed it after i was getting mid to low 30's on all the practice exams... I would say sign up what the hell is another 250$ when your running after your dream

Took the MCAT on Saturday, and this helped me out. Never a AAMC practice test under 30, and my scores improved gradually from 30 to 39. I was stressed, but I kept it under control.

I feel like I f***ed up totally on the real deal, but I probably didn't.

Great thread. I am in a similar boat. Took the 7/16 exam and have VERIFIED that I got two "fact" questions wrong on BS. I am so disappointed in myself because both were physio questions. Since physio is my best subject by far, I spent a lot more time on my weaker subjects and as a result, screwed up. Going to keep studying to at least maintain where I was, then most likely re-take in August or September. Since many people test in August or September as their first test and apply that cycle, I would think that schools will still consider an August/September retake....?
