Hi -
I have a friend who recently had an ENT do nasal surgery to fix a broken nose (no maxillary involvment) after trauma. The ENT told him it would be a routine surgery that would be 15 minutes.
As it turns out it was 45 minutes. He is happy with the ENT's work, but is concerned about the post-op throat pain. His uvula is edematous, bruised and enlargened. It was black and blue and has turned white and is sloughing off. He can breathe, talk and and has some pain with swallowing. I most note I have not actually looked down his throat.
I know nothing was intentional- but how often does something like this happen?
I know of lots of people loosing teeth, but have never heard of this one.
His throat hurts more than his nose more than a week later.
Any advice?
thanks
