Hello Everyone,

I have a question regarding employment after completing a post doc. I have a Psy.D, but don't have a license yet (I'm also not licensed as an LPC or an LCPC). My question is can I work under the supervision of an LCPC at this time or must I still work under a LCP until I am licensed? I am in Illinois. Thank you for your time.

Typically, you would want to get licensed while on post doc. Or an employer will make your start date contingent on completion of licensure. Supervision laws for licensure vary between states.

I guess the question is why aren't you going for licensure at this point?

I would check with the state board.

Also, are you still needing to acquire additional supervised postdoc hours? If so, I'd be surprised if they let you accumulate those hours under the supervision of anything other than a licensed psychologist. If not, as you aren't yet licensed in any capacity, you may still need to find a psychologist to supervise. But again, I could see this being very dependent on state law.

Thanks everyone! To clarify, I am currently trying to get licensed. I take my exam in a couple of months and I don't need any additional hours. There's a position that I'm interested in (and the employer is interested in me), so that's why I wanted to ask. I will definitely follow-up with the state board.
