Hey everyone,

So, I just interviewed for a scribe position at a local hospital and now I'm freaking out and hoping someone can give me some peace of mind or just be real and say I didn't get it.

The interviewer and I got along well, we had some casual talk aside from the interview questions..

But a few issues arose..
1. I was told to be prepared for a spelling test with basic terminology. He instead asked for definitions and NO spelling. While I didn't completely mess up, I definitely did not know a few since I was prepare for spelling only.
2. I have no experience since I switched my concentration late, and coupled with issue 1 I feel like that's 2 strikes.
3. At the end of the interview, he filled me in on the next stages of training, wages, etc. So that must be good right? I don't know because upon leaving, he shook my hand and said it was very nice to meet you.... but no promise of a follow up?

I'm sorry this is such a trivial thing, but I just really wanted to get my foot in the door and now I feel like I completely messed up and won't get it. Advice? Thoughts?

Worrying about this is going to do nothing. Just wait and see... Even if you do not get this position, there are a lot more out there

Was this interview with a specific scribe company? I'm a Chief Scribe for ScribeAmerica and can really only elaborate on their hire process/interview structure.

1) IDK why he would ask for definitions.. you are typically taught that in pre-employment training, so that's just stupid to do that in an interview from my perspective.

2) Scribing is an entry-level job. I wouldn't see past experience as being necessary and I certainly didn't have any prior to being hired.

3) I think this is just a formality.

I wouldn't be too worried at all if I were you. Its not super difficult to get a scribe position. I had about the least amount of past experience one could have (none) and still got it. You should be fine.

Thank you, SSSMDt. I appreciate your response. I just need to remind myself to breathe. 😛 Hard to do sometimes

Cheers! Look into other scribe companies as well!! There are tons out there and I was never super impressed with ScribeAmerica's pay, but they are a large company and a good one to get your foot in the door.

I also interview for ScribeAmerica. I ask definitions to see if the candidate is interested in learning, but not knowing the definitions won't be a deal breaker given other positive interview experience.

Majors don't really matter unless you studied something along the line of physiology, prehospital care, anatomy, etc. Majoring in history and general biology don't make a huge difference for me.

I do #3 for everyone. I think it's a standard process of an interview to explain what the next steps are and to end the meeting with "nice meeting you."

If you come off as personable, have a decent typing speed, seem enthusiastic/committed to the job and eager to learn, and also aren't a total weirdo, I'll probably hire you, as long as your availability matches up. Everything else is window dressing.

We usually give out a sheet with words, names, etc to "familiarize" yourself with; however, I hardly ever refer to them until the first day of classroom training. If I did ask question 1, it would be to see how you respond to words/definitions you're not familiar with. My first 3 months on the job I was CONSTANTLY looking things up on google after leaving the room. A willingness to learn is crucial.

Well, I'd like to thank you all for putting up with my nerves 🙄 this morning I received an offer!! Guess I did better than I expected.

Congrats! You'll have a blast. Try not to get too overwhelmed the first few weeks; it gets better with time.

Congrats! You'll get as much out of the job as you want really. The more you learn, the better scribe you'll be.
