Yup... got the letter in the mail today. They move pretty fast! Anyways, just wanted to let u all know the review process has started in full force at Stanford.

hey dodgerdog sorry to hear that - scary if they shut you out - goodluck with the others though🙂

Sorry to hear that... can't win them all. Sending you lucky vibes for the rest of your apps 🙂

if you dont mind..what were your stats? EC? age/race?

You dont have to answer, but these things would be nice for those of us waiting in the wings...

i'm not gonna write the response for dr. dodgerdog, but i know him personally, and he has perfect grades and scores, and has great personal experiences. unlike me, he is a really nice guy. this is a travesty and testament to the randomness of the process.

and if he wants to tell u how good they r, that's his choice. it might scare all of yall tho.

haha... thanks for the support everyone... this process is truly random....

since i'm sure you guys are all wondering about my stats...u can find them elsewhere on the board..

i'm not too disappointed tho because I already have an acceptance at a school I really do want to go to 🙂 FIGHT ON!

dude! i was looking at the thread w/ u and dr. kev's stats, and they're insanely great! i wonder what happened w/ stanford adcom?

they definitely were smoking crack when they decided to reject him..............dont' worry doc, you'll get into better than stanford........

Wow, your stats are amazing. Stanford is missing out, the sorry bastards. 😉

dodgerdog,

my bro, my bud, my fellow si leader who pulled my ass outta the trenches. we'll drink when i get back to LA 🙂 cool bud?

streetphil,

trust me. nothing went wrong. dodgerdog has great personal experiences and motivation that comes from the heart on why he wants to pursue a doctor. and on top of that, he's a really chill guy, not an dingus like me. random.

Dammm.......if they rejected stats like that it should not be too long before we get our letters. But you know I heard Dr. Garcia talk at UC Davis a few months ago and he said they look for people who are different.......meaning........they take a lot of people who write poetry and play music and don't have the normal premed profile. Who knows what they want. Good luck with the other schools man!

dodger dog,

what date was your stanford app complete?

i should be expecting that same rejection letter in the mail soon.

LOR's received 8/5 so i guess that's when the file was complete...

honestly, I don't know what went wrong... I don't know if I fit the normal premed profile or not... I played piano since the age of 5, the violin since the age of 8 and timpani since high school... haha i don't think the fact that I do or do not play music has anythin to do with it...

I guess i didn't really expect to make all the schools i applied to... so this isn't a big deal... I just want all you guys to know what we're all up against 🙂

A friend of mine @ stanford told me that the admissions ppl are trying to increase the # of URMs this year. That may have hurt ure app...otherwise... 😕

SCREW STANFORD. It's overrated anyway.

i think you should call the adcom, specifically the dean of admissions, and ask for them to re-evaluate your application. i know a girl who didn't get an interview from a top 10 school so she called the dean directly. after speaking to him and pleading her case, he offered her an interview and she ended up getting into the school.

I was talking to a friend of mine about the politics of admissions (btw she's a first year at U Mich). She had some interesting stories to share.

Once she was accepted to U of Chicago, all her other schools placed her on their wait lists even though she had a stellar record; good EC's, research, 35S MCAT, >3.9 GPA. So, it could mean the school you were accepted to was comparable or better than Stanford, and they assumed you were going to go there.

A side note from her: two engaged JHU graduates, one at U Mich (MD/PhD) and the other at JHU, were both unable to receive interviews at the same school and will be separated for the next 7-8 yrs.

two engaged students, one who graduated from U Mich undergrad (highly recruited and now in MD/PhD) persuaded the admissions board to accept his fiance into the med school.

Admissions process is definitely capricious!

Man, I wanna know what kind of arguments all those people used in persuading the deans and adcoms to accept them!!
