So, please guys go easy on me..I can't find the answer to my questions on google as the information on this is quite sparse.
Two years ago, I attended a small liberal arts college and ended up getting pneumonia and sent to the emergency room. I lost a tremendous amount of weight and pretty much couldn't even walk to class without feeling faint. It was literally the WORST time of my life because I was away from my family and scared that there was something serious going on. The nurses at the college blamed me for my problems and suspected that I was anorexic. I was in such a bad place... Well long story short I ended up withdrawing from one course in Spring and getting a C- in Calculus 3 after my struggles. I've since maintained a 3.6 in all of my classes after that, but I am wondering if I can get a retroactive withdrawal (I think that's what it's called..please correct me) for the Calc 3 course. I have all the medical documents (multiple hospital visits even an ambulance ride) so that won't be an issue to produce those. I go to another college now in my hometown so I don't know if the policy for this varies from school to school.

Again, please do not be judgmental and I am only looking for some kind advice about this.

Thanks guys!!!! 🙂

This is the first time I've heard of a "retroactive" withdrawal. A quick Google search tells me that some schools will entertain formal requests for retroactive withdrawals, but only if there were some extraordinary circumstances that prevented the student from withdrawing by the drop-day deadline. Since you withdrew from one course after your illness, I think the school will question why you didn't just withdraw from Calc 3 at the same time. It shows that you could have withdrawn from Calc 3 at the time, but you chose against it.

Why didn't you take an incomplete in your courses?

My school sucked and told me that I could only withdraw from one course and still be on track for graduation. (I was a freshman in my second semester) Pretty much they turned a blind eye to the difficulties that I was having being admitted to the ER multiple times and in and out of doctors. We only took 4 courses per semester and if I withdrew from two courses they would force me to take 6 courses the next semester. I'm glad I'm gone from that place.
:scared:

Sorry just reread your post, I don't even think they offered incompletes at that school.

You can try for a retroactive withdrawal. (I've also heard it termed a 'late withdrawal for medical reasons' or something like that).

But if your school refuses, take the C- and live with it. Yes, it sucks, but you still have a good GPA and you can take the class again. Med schools will not throw your application in the trash if you have a single failing grade--heck, they might not even ask about it!

Thanks for your comments Spinach Dip and the reassurance! I'll probably just call my old college anonymously since they don't even have any policies related to this type of thing. Haha, I highly doubt that I will ever want to take Calculus III again

I have heard you can do that but it will be for all the courses not just Cal iii in your case for that semester.
