Your school list looks really good and with your GPA and solid DAT, you should get into at least a few of these schools mentioned.
I really hope so! Mostly worried about my GPA as it's on the lower side. Freaking out because I haven't received a supplemental from Maryland yet so I'm wondering if my GPA didn't make the cutoff.

My gpa's are similar to yours, just have patience and stop freaking out.

Well you haven't taken the DAT yet, but considering you essentially have a 4.0.... I think you'll be okay. Depends how you think you'll do on the DAT. If you think you'll get a low/average score, apply to some private safety schools. If you think you'll get a really good score, get more volunteering hours and apply literally wherever you want.

I've already submitted my app to my top three schools, waiting on my DAT to decide what to do with the rest. Do you think my work experience and, if I score high enough, my DAT could offset my volunteer hours? I just joined an organization this spring that I already accumulated 40 hours, and will probably double that in the fall. Is there any way I could get schools to know about these hours?

You can only list what you have done now and then contact each school later in the cycle to let them know of your updated hours. Well that's how I'm handling it.

GPA: 3.97 overall; 3.97 science
DAT: 24 AA/ 26TS/ 20PAT/ 19QR/ 20RC/ 26BIO/ 30GC/ 25OC
Letter: Genetics prof, Ochem prof, PI/Cell bio prof, OMFS
Shadowing: 110 hours (General + OMFS)
Volunteering: 220hrs hospital, ~250 food pantry, 150hrs free clinic
Research: About 2 years. Presented my research at my university. Got 2 small research grants as well.
Residency: CA
Other: English is my third language, went to a community college then transferred to a UC.

This is where I need help. I haven't finalized my school list, but I have made a preliminary list:
UCSF
UCLA
UOP
Western
Columbia
Harvard (a man can dream)
Nova
Stony Brook
Temple
Penn
Rutgers
NYU
Maryland
Case
VCU

I believe all of these accept CC credits as long as they transfer over to a 4yr university.

Could use some feedback on my school list

Don't think Temple is very friendly with CC credits. Doubt you need to replace it with anything though considering your stats. Stony Brook is probably a waste of money. Very OOS unfriendly.

I really need advice on schools to look at. Here are my stats.

GPA:
3.95 oGPA, ~3.92 sGPA
DAT: 22AA, 21TS (Bio 20, GC 19, Ochem 29), 23RC, 23PAT 21QR
Shadowing: 80 hours, 15 with pedo. Soon will have OMSF shadowing and ortho.
Volunteering: ~900 hours, mostly extracurriculars.
Research: Research on Drosophila melanogaster eye proteins ~150 hours.
Work: University tutor 2 years (Gen Chem, Physics, Microbio) Tour guide for 2 year. RA for 1.5 years.
LOR: Dentist, A&P Teacher and Research Director, Employer at guiding place, Chem Prof and advisor of environmental club that I led.
Residency: SD (Yes, we exist.)

Notable miscellaneous:
Student Body President: Got elected at end of the year.
President of Environmental Coalition of Student: Outdoor appreciation and recycling club. ( A good excuse to go camping in -20 F weather. )
Passed bill in school to implement recycling campus-wide.

The major concern I have are that my shadow hours are low and relatively recent. I've been working all summer and had a hard time doing a ton. I only decided I wanted to do dentistry in October of last year. I want to apply to Michigan and other schools that require 100+ hours and I am frustrated with how many hours I need, not because I don't want to do them but because I work so much.

I know I can get into some schools but I am e-submitting soon and need to know what schools to consider and if my current schools are ridiculous or not. How many schools should I apply to? I was thinking like 15 before my DAT but now I don't feel like applying to more than 8-10. Thoughts?

Schools (No particular order.)
University of Minnesota (1st choice)
University of Michigan
West Virginia
Pittsburgh
Boston
Pennsylvania
University of Iowa
Washington
Colorado
Tuft (Expensive though)
Rutgers (Also expensive)

My big concerns are that I want a school that be in an area I don't need to worry about getting mugged, and cheaper is better. They also need to be OOS friendly because SD has no dental school.

Just so everyone knows, Midwestern-AZ will not accept anyone with a GPA under 3.0. I have a DAT of 23AA/24TS and was rejected already because my sGPA is 2.99. Received an email this morning that stated that I did not "meet the cutoff". I checked their website prior to applying and this info was not on there. They must have recently added this. In case anyone cares, I have a friend who graduated from MWU-AZ this year and he says that their new dean really cares about very high DAT and GPA, even though they list out they will take 3.0's and sub-par DAT of 18.

Good point. I was hoping for a response to my post and it's crickets. I think if it were stickied, I would have received at least one response. LOL.:whistle::whistle:
Same!! People get so pissy about "clogging up the forum" when there's already a thread, but whenever I reply to a thread with 10000000 pages I get no response.

Would it be a stretch to add (one can dream right?):
Columbia
UPENN
UOP

If there’s anything I should add or take out please let me know. All advice (good, bad, or indifferent) is greatly appreciated. I’ve been a long time lurker and finally took the DAT to be able to post on the a chance me thread! Thanks everyone!

Your gpa is great and your AA is pretty good; I think your stats overall outweigh your PAT. I'm applying (DAT in 19 days) to columbia and UPenn with a much lower gpa; do it if you got the dough!

Posting for the sake of FINALLY being done with my application after taking the DAT today. Now we play the waiting game. Good Luck to all!

I think I am pretty happy with the list of schools I would be happy to go to. Any suggestions for a safety school(s) though? I would ideally like to spend less money on submitting my application.
