I'm at Temple. I'll PM you my stats. 👍

Overall GPA: 3.4
Science GPA: 3.4
MCAT scores: taking it in September
BRIEF EC's: community service fraternity, half a year of research, pharmacy intern for a quarter, inturmural sports
Personal Pod Experience: shadowed one for a few hours

Hi, I'm planning on applying to Western, and then maybe to Samuel, and AZ. I'm a bit concerned about not having enough EC's. What are my chances of getting into Western?

I don't know ANYTHING about Western, as it's brand spankin' new, but I know that AZPOD is competitive. From what I've read on here, they have something in the range of 26-27 MCAT scores. Get mid-20's.

See if you can get in with your pod for a few more hours. Solid letters are good.

I also worked in a pharmacy, and I was asked at EVERY interview why I didn't want to be a pharmacist, so be ready to answer that one.

Undergrad GPA: 3.65
Postbacc Science GPA: 3.55
MCAT: probably mid-high 28's, haven't heard yet

"Unique": professional musician, Ivy grad (I don't care but they might)
Standard: 200+ hospital hours, clinician assistant at free clinic, surgical shadowing, medical missions to south america
Honors/Awards: lots in undergrad

Not so much: no shadowing of a pod yet - just decided on Pod School - going to find one through the website, though.

I'm thinking DMU, Scholl, Western, and AZPod. I need a rec from a pod for some, though!!! And I'm definitely interested in scholarship opps but needing a rec from a pod and shadowing may hold up my app - or will they look at me if I have my committee letter/transcripts/app ready to send 09/01?

Thanks for input.

I'm not sure if you can be conditionally accepted without a letter from a pod. Get on that as soon as possible. Your GPA and MCAT are good, especially from an Ivy.

Jump on your pod letter, apply early, and IMHO, your set.

I would say that your good. Of course, apply early.

Caution: I was a pharmacy tech for a few years, (today is my last day! :soexcited:), but I was asked in all of my interviews why I didn't want to go to pharmacy school. From what you've posted, you may get asked the same question regarding dental school. Just make sure that you show your genuine interest in pod, and you should do well in yout interviews. 👍🙂

lol....I'm actually looking forward to that question...I was 5 mins away from submitting my AADSAS application to dental school a few months ago, when I decided to shadow a pod...The rest is 😍, thus the immediate switch....

It was hard 4 me to realize that most of my years in the military working 1000's of hours w/ dentists, etc, was all washed away with (1) day shadowing a pod...😱...If the committee can't understand my history after I explain it, I'll be 🙁

HM2-

For your interviews all you have to do is smile and say "United States Navy!" You can throw in the word "bitches" if you would like. They will hand you the acceptance and scholarship on the spot. :meanie::meanie::meanie:

Hi...can I get your honest opinion?

Non science GPA: 3.5
Science: 3.1
MCAT: I am taking it in about two and a half weeks but so far my scores on my practice tests have been 18 or 19

I have an upward trend in grades (made the deans list for every consecutive semester since sophomore year)

VERY involved in ECs

6 strong LORs (I from a pod whom I shadowed)

just graduated from an IVY league level school (top 25 in the nation and famous for its pre-med program)

studied abroad and had a paper published

have research and clinical experience

looking for a job for a year...hopefully in research

I want to apply everywhere for the fall 2009

I really think you need to get your MCAT up to mid-20's. For the next couple of weeks, you need to take gillions of practice exams.

Ya, I am definately studying a lot for the mcat...but do you think that i could get in ANYWHERE with the stats i have now?

I've seen people post up huge MCAT #'s or GPA's only to falter under workloads in professional schools and get tossed or quit. This is a classic scenario. Getting there is only the start. Staying there is the trauma.

Wow, you paint a picture of such optimism & hope. Staying in pod school is the "trauma"...whoa, lighten up!

Hi guys,

I'm taking the MCAT in a week and should have my results about 2 weeks after application begins.

Can I apply without having my MCAT score?

Also.....

I plan on retaking the MCAT if I don't do well the first time. How would that work with sending in my new score?

thank you for your help

Vincenzo - have you looked at the podiatry admission's site? Check it out - along with some of the schools websites.. (there are only a few....) the admission process is very straightforward and thats all posted there. I recommend you look this up yourself as you will need those sites in order to actually do any of your admission procedures.
good luck.

I am wondering my chances at getting into a Podiatry school for this next cycle --- I have a 3.1 cumulative GPA, do to a poor first run at college ( my first degree). I'd like to attend Des Moines, Ohio, or Scholl- but will apply to all.

After 6 years out of school I returned - I have a 3.8 science GPA -- I have made the Dean's List the last 4 years ( big upward trend ). And am wrapping up my Cell Biology degree in the spring ---

The bad thing is I scored a crappy 20 O on the MCAT, I separated my shoulder 2 days before it and was a little out of my game- bad excuse I know- but true.

Will I still be competitive as far as applicants go?

Will my science GPA save me a little bit?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS!
