Poster/Abstract Citations?

Hey guys,
If we were co-authors on posters but we did not attend the conference since we weren't the lead authors, should I just cite these poster presentations on my application as abstracts (since all poster presentations will have abstracts put into a booklet)? I don't list them as poster presentations right but instead as abstracts?

On my CV, I list them all as 'presentations' and put the list of authors (clearly I wasn't the presenter if my name is not first), title, conference, city, etc.

I don't know if this helps, though. Is this for your AMCAS app? I think as long as you say you have research experience and you have some accepted abstracts and poster presentations (x, y, z) it's not crucial for you to elaborate. Unless, of course, you want to.

Cite the poster and conference. If you were listed on the abstract for the poster, your name should have been on the poster as well [even if you didn't attend]. Don't worry, you'll get credit for your work.

Abstracts aren't 'publications' in the sense that AMCAS is referring to - so just set your citation in the poster/presentation section.

Is it possible to say "in progress" or "under revision" in AMCAS in the publications section? My specific situation involves a publication being rejected. My PI is working on fixing it up and resubmitting it places. If it's not currently submitted somewhere I am wondering if it's able to be listed in AMCAS

Any chance it'll be accepted by June 1 when the AMCAS comes out? Unless you are going back and forth with revisions at one particular journal, I would leave it out of the publications section and mention it somewhere else (personal statement maybe). I say this because you don't know where it's going to end up yet.

You certainly can't say "in revision" because that means it's already been through review at a journal and will be revised and sent back to that same journal. Your paper is only rejected as of yet.

Hopefully your PI will be able to submit elsewhere by June. In that case, you can write "in review" at whatever journal. If not, just mention the paper when you take about research in your 15 activities. And then hopefully you'll have a nice update letter to send schools when the paper does get accepted (or even if it's just in revision).

Regarding "submitted" or "in progress" or "in revision" or "in review" or whatever... it doesn't count for anything unless it's published. Won't hurt to put it as such, but won't help either.

Thanks guys, originally for amcas was just going to put these unattended poster presentations as just abstracts under research experience. So was just going to clump them all together as one under research experience. But you guys are saying even if I didn't attend the conference, I should still put them under poster presentations instead?

...If you were listed on the poster as an author. Often the names from the submitted abstract carry over to the poster.

I have worked in research for several years and while I didn't present the posters, I was listed on the posters at several conferences. I listed them under "poster/presentations" and included the name of the presenter in my citation with a brief description of my contribution to the project.

Congratulations! That's exciting (though nerve-wracking, I'm sure). I would list it as just that: oral presentation. So under 'Presentations' section, you would list all posters AND oral presentations and just note which each one was.

Not totally sure though - I just have posters so far!

I have Poster Presentations and Oral Presentations as two separate headings (based on a couple of other researchers' CVs that I looked at). Under the Oral Presentations section:

Last Name and First Initial. Title of presentation/research work. Conference name. Month and year.

Ex:

theWUbear B. Being a badass premed is predictive of acceptance to medical school. Ridonkulously Awesome Conference. April 2011.

Just search around for other researchers'/PIs' CVs and imitate what you see.

If I just got accepted to present a poster at a national conference that will be held AFTER I apply to med school (meaning I will not have actually presented the poster at the time of AMCAS primary submission) can I still list it under my research activities?

i would think so. you could even put it under the presentations/posters because it's a legit citation. just put (accepted) or something by the citation and note that you will be presenting this work as a poster.

If you haven't yet presented it, but have been invited to do so, I think that listing the acceptance after the Research description would be most appropriate.
