Hi I've been working in a lab for around 3 years now, and I do not have a publication... I was expecting one, but minor issues will delay that process.

I also do not have a poster/presentation experience as of now... I will do a poster presentation near the end of this year and I will do a presentation/poster in Jan/Feb of 2011.

1) How bad does it look if you dont have a pub/poster/presentation after working 3 years in a lab?

2) Is it possible to send an update letter after my first poster presentation in December and also let them know that I will present in 2011?

3) With my research experiences, do I have a chance at IVY schools?

Thanks !!

1) Maybe. Do you have any sort of presentation, even informal like a lab meeting? That will at least give you experience you can talk about. Pubs are fickle, and in many cases (including mine), it's about luck more than anything else. I think what you learned from the lab is much more important than what results you have to show from it (but results do help).

2) You can send an update letter, and it seems like a good idea in your case. I do not know exactly how these work, but someone should be able to help you.

3) No idea. They do look heavily at research it seems, so it definitely doesn't hurt.
