Hey,

So I'm PGY2 resident, trying to spruce up my CV for fellowship apps.

Just wondering, I presume publication is more "valuable" than a poster presentation?

I have a few publications (ie. systmatic reviews, case reports, etc.). But now I'm starting to wonder if I missed out...should I have initially submitted to a conference to present as a poster, and then submitted it to a journal? Did I miss out on adding a few more lines to my CV?

I ask this because I met a resident who has published 4 case reports, but also presented those cases at conferences (So 2 for 1).

Can I submit to conference for a poster after publishing in a journal, or is that not allowed?

Thanks!

Publications are generally viewed more favorably than posters, yes. However, case reports are increasingly difficult to publish, and are also considered the "lowest level" of publication. So I'm not sure how much that really matters in your case.

You generally cannot submit an abstract/poster to a conference that has been published as a manuscript.
