So I got real behind in the sn2 schedule for 3 months...I didn't even do somethings like rereading chapters and going over practice questions ( like there is one day a week where you are suppose to do that).I did go over some practice questions for the sections I read...I am literally on the second section of Bio in TBR

I am scheduled to take the march 22
but I know I am not fully prepared. ..

I really wanted to apply to the Drexel DPMS program....they require mcat scores
and this the last mcat I can take to have the scores sent in by the deadline. If I postpone it...then I won't be able to apply for that program...
On the other hand they don't necessarily require a great
Mcat score...but if I postponed and better prepared. .then if I get a better mcat score that could open doors or help me ..even though my GPA is 3.27 sgPA 2.97..

what do you guys suggest I do...?postpone not apply for DPMS program at Drexel U
or do mcat still get possibly weak score...but apply to DPMS...and maybe take MCAT again before July..?

Or is getting a weak score at all even when you get a better score later , detrimental to med school or special masters program apps?

to be honest, i would just buckle down, get a mid/high 20s MCAT, and try my luck at DO

What have you been scoring so far? If you think you can get the min. MCAT for that Drexel program and that's what you want to do, then go for it.

would you still apply to a smp?

nope

how many science credits do you have so far? a sub 3.0 sGPA will be tough even for DO, but an informal postbacc/grade replacement can raise your sGPA very quickly, negating the need for an expensive smp.

here is your situation as i see it:

if you want MD, you absolutely have to take the smp or a rigorous formal postbacc/science masters (in order to compensate for that 2.9ish sGPA). in addition, you'll want a low/mid 30s MCAT score in order to further compensate for your dismal undergraduate GPA. are you confident in your ability to get a 33+ and do very well in an expensive smp/other similar program? are the time and financial costs of doing so worth it? are you aiming for a top residency or have a burning deserve to work in academia/research?

on the other hand, if you consider do...

you can RETAKE previously taken science courses for a higher grade - this allows you to rapidly boost your sGPA and is much easier, since you are repeating courses you've already taken. DOs also dont care if you take community college courses. in addition, a mid/high 20s MCAT will suffice for most DO schools. so if you're fine with DO, all you got to do is break a 25 on the MCAT and take a bunch of community college courses.

in the end, here is what you must do for MD and DO

for MD:
-perform well in a rigorous/expensive formal program such as SMP
-33+ MCAT (because your uGPA is so low)

for DO:
-retake science classes at a community college
-25+ MCAT (though you want a 28+ to maximize your chances)

Well I haven't done a practice mcat exam yet...so I am not sure..
I was wanting do the review first...

But most of the bcpm classes I took and got
Grades in the c range were upper level courses so they are courses not offered at my local community college...did get c and d in calculus courses though which are at the cc.

to take those classes again at the school I went I'd rather not do..

so..it looks like I may apply to the smps/certs
programs

As for taking the mcat in March...well I got to decide soon

Thanks for the advise aspiring20
and thanks also gookies

I wouldn't want to rush to take the MCAT if I were you, you might end up having to retake it depending on how you do and from what you're saying, you don't seem that prepared. You said you haven't done that much review yet. I believe most people taking the March 22nd MCAT are basically done with that and starting on FLs.

the problem is if I reschedule I won't be able to apply to Drexel DPMS

I guess the thing to decide is...what are my chances of getting into Drexel DPMs
