hey guys I have a problem... my interview at louisville is coming up in about 2 weeks and I just found out that I have an exam that day. I asked the teacher if I can take the test earlier/later but she didnt agree even after explaining to her my situation. Louisville specifically states in their email that it will be nearly impossible to postpone interviews once scheduled. Should I call them and try to see if they're willing to postpone it after stating my situation? would this make me look like a bad applicant? any advice is greatly appreciated.

Call them and explain your situation. It's not like you have a choice. Obviously, the best solution would be convincing your professor to allow you to take the exam earlier or later, but if she absolutely refuses even after hearing your reason, you have no choice.

Depends on what's more important to you: aceing a class or getting into louisville? I missed an exam last week due to similar circumstances but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do; no interview = no chance of acceptance.

while i agree with koreano...

you still need to pass your classes to continue on to d-school. try asking your teacher again and if that doesn't work...you might have to take that exam on the scheduled day. pray that louisville has another open date.

Your professor is being a slouch. How much is the test worth relative to the rest of your class?

yeah, OP's prof. is being unnecessarily mean. I honestly think it comes down to the professor not wanting to make up another exam especially for the OP. I can't think of any other plausible reason.

I didn't even have the chance to ask or explain my situation. Every syllabus I had during the interview season stated they would not make any accommodations for any professional interviews. Luckily I made out okay with minimal academic effects.

I'd look at the worst-case scenario on your final grade in the class and the overall transcript consequences. If you've got a 3.1, think there's a chance of reapplying, and this is an upper-division science with a possibility of a C if you miss a test, then it's a sticky situation. And how many interviews you have and where Lou sits on your list (although I think all interviews should be attended). I came to terms with accepting a B if that's what I had to do to make my interviews. I'd like to think that some schools will understand, but I lean more towards not even messing with it. If they had to accommodate everyone, it would be a mess. They probably wouldn't, but I also wouldn't' want the risk of them thinking I'm just stringing them along as a backup school until I hear from others.

I sort of understand undergrad professors not wanting to accommodate: big school = big class = lots of accommodations = "I'm not paid enough to deal with this". But it seems like placing students in professional programs would be a good thing for the school.
