Hi All,

I am asking this for a friend:

She is currently enrolled in Cell Bio at school and it is brutal. She's just received her first exam back and through her calculations, there's no possible way she can pass this class with a C unless she gets a 90 on each of the remaining exams. She really wants to drop this class but she already has 3 other Withdrawals (Gen Chem 1, Gen Chem 2, and Gen Chem Lab 1). She's a senior and is planning on applying to a Masters Program before applying to Med School. Her current GPA is a 3.4. In your opinion, would dropping this class affect her chances of getting into a Med oriented masters program? Thanks a ton.

Anyone should be able to manage a 4.0 if they just W everything they can't ace. I have a 3.94 non-science GPA, but my cumulative is 3.7. Do you know why? It's because I took those Cs and Bs in the courses I wasn't at the top of the class in. I didn't deserve a top grade and I didn't get one. I never thought of using a W to "take a mulligan", so to speak.

A history of Ws is bad.

Don't listen to the person above me. W's are much more favorable than an F/D, and possibly even a C. Plus, it sounds like your friend really needs to crush the class to even make a C. I'd drop it and be more prepared next time.

There's no moral highroad to take with grades (besides cheating, duh). You don't get extra points for toughing out a class you're likely to do poor in.

normally I would agree, but this would be a 4th Withdraw too.

Time to call upon @Goro , @gyngyn, and @LizzyM and @gonnif

well, I had 2-3 Fs and 2 W's? and a semester of 2.0.... That has to be worse than 4 W's right?

It'll be ok... breath and get some 4.0's

That many Ws looks like GPA sparing but with a 3.4 there isn't much to save.... (more often we see this in applicants with 3.99). I have no idea how this will be perceived as I never see GPA 3.4 applicants with or without Ws.

What about 3.5-3.6? 😳😵:bucktooth:
