Hi, I've come to terms with the fact that my 3 waitlists are becoming less and less realistic this cycle. I am not applying this coming cycle, but want some advice on what I should improve.
The Good:
GPA - 3.93 so I'm not worried about that
Research - ~2 years and a senior thesis. I'm graduated though so I can't imagine how to get re-involved in this
Clinical experience - Two years of full time clinical work in different settings
Work experience - I've had employment in a variety of fields since I was 16, and was employed all throughout college
The Bad:
MCAT - 506. I will definitely retake
Shadowing - I had none when I applied. I figured my clinical experience was enough, but looking back I think it hurt my app. I've shadowed two doctors since, one family med and one PM&R. But I also plan to shadow more.
Volunteering - my volunteering is pretty scattered. I've done a lot, but usually short-lived or very infrequent.
Letters of Rec - as a non-science major, my science letters were probably VERY weak because I didn't know the professors very well, and one was even by a TA (co-signed by professor).
I am thinking I need an MCAT retake, new LORs, and an Americorps-type experience in this upcoming year to be ready for June 2018 application. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
