Potential Secondary Update

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What if I’m covering healthcare/biotech securities
Sounds great! Obviously, do what you gotta do. I'm just not sure giving them an update letting them know you're good if the med school thing doesn't work out is actually going to help you here, notwithstanding how impressive your achievement may be.

Should I be specific in my update regarding the name of the firm I’m working at? Or should I just say a diversified HF? I don’t want med schools to tell the firm because if I don’t get in I’d like to keep working. But being specific is better.

Would a new job be sufficient for update? It’s not related to clinical/research at all but I suppose it’s at a somewhat “prestigious” (I cringe at having to use this description but can’t think of a better way to describe it) firm in a front office position? Thanks

I would update maybe a quarter or a half of schools in case it’s not good to send that kind of update (hedging)
It’s not update worthy at all. It doesn’t enhance your application and you have just started, if you’ve started at all(can’t tell from what you shared). Maybe later in the cycle you could have a big update with this and other things like increases in shadowing, clinical experiences, nonclinical volunteering, a semester of straight As. You know, things that are relevant to your application.

I just dont want them thinking I’m doing nothing. But I’ve decided give no updates until at least November

Yo bro, I see you commenting everywhere and you're clearly in a panic. I saw your original post, and I was confused why everyone was saying you would be DOA. You ultimately were only convicted of possession, several years ago. Just don't mention that you were a dealer and pled down the charges. A lot of applicants have IA or charges for alcohol or marijuana, it's not exactly an application killer. Unless you were caught with heroin or something.

Hahah somewhat of a panic, somewhat that I’m surrounded by monitors all day

Nope, not at all. The Admissions Dean is not going to run out of his/her office screaming the the Admin: "We have to invite this kid for an interview!!! They just got a new job at Major League Biotech!"

Unless you were caught with heroin or something.

That's exactly what it was...a major league bad substance.

Oh damn, that sucks. Out of curiosity, does the background check say exactly what the crime done was, or just its classification. For example, does it just say "misdemeanor: possession of illegal substance" or would it name the exact substance.

How much worse is this than say theft, possession of an illicit substance without selling, or driving while intoxicated. I’m not excusing any of these and realize how serious they are, just think a comparison would be interesting.

Let's say arrested for heroin possession....End of medical career

DUI while 17...can be forgiven

DUI at 19...might be forgiven

DUI at 25....End of medical career

Multiple DUIs...End of medical career

Need I go on with more false equivalences? Your coping skills during this process appear to be very unhealthy.

Background checks are outside my knowledge base.

If somebody was ~21 (in the middle of above) and has put four to five years between it, might it not be an app killer

also thank you @Goro for all the effort you put into this forum. Sometimes brutal honesty is better than giving false delusion.

With all due respect, what's the point of speculation with an anonymous adcom at this stage? You are a reapplicant with an otherwise great application, so you are going to know definitively in a few short months. Not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but definitely soon.

You have already received the SDN adcom verdict. Nothing to do now except wait to see what actually happens. No amount of "what ifs" with infinite permutations is going to change anything at this stage of the game.
