Hi

I know someone who is going to Poznan Medical next year. They got in straight out of highschool and are in a 6-year MD program. I was wondering how successful these students generally are? It looks like an interesting program.

How easy is it for a medical student from poznan to get a residency position in Canada? How difficult is it to get into these medical schools.

Is there a difference between the 6 year program and the 4 year program after undergrad?

Realistically, can these students compete for competitive programs in canada. It sounds like it is a lot easier to get into than Canadian medical schools, almost too easy to be true.

Thanks

You might want to post the same question on the Polish med school thread on the valuemed forum (www.valumd.com).

Good luck. From what I hear, PUMS is a very good school (but the locals are very rude) and has produced some find graduates.

Im a first year student in the 6md english program here... PUMS is supposed to be the best med-school in Poland after the Jagiellonian University in Krakow..

There are about 800 foreign students here for md, dds, pharmacy. Basicly they are devided into three groups; North-American, Scandinavian (mostly Norwegians) and Taiwanese students...

So far I am verry happy with the school.... Of cours there are some minor things that could be different, but since the curiculum is based on the US one we use the same books and get the same education basicly... But trust me... It is hard work!

No, recidency is not included... 6MD program is for those who DON'T have a undergrad, hence a few more years for basic classes before you start the clinical part. So you have to take that in your country when you are done with the degree.

Its better than the 4MD program in the way that its a little less stressfull and that you dont have to waste 3 years on undergrad taking classes which has nothing to do with medicine.... However, I think alot of the "straight out of high school" students could need a few more years of maturing and learing study habits before they get here. Some of them are just to young to move away to Europe alone, they dont have any study habits (WHICH YOU NEED!!!) and they are just in general immature...

Yes, its easier to get in... But belive me its hard work. I spend 40-50 hours at the library every week outside classes. If you dont pass you get kicked out.. So its a big stress factor..

Btw: PUMS was prized as the best medical school in Poland for the 4th time since year 2000 this year
