Practice on Dead people ????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hear from dental students that the best thing you can do is to have a dedicated pair of scrubs for anatomy lab and only wear them then change afterwards.

The worst story I heard was when they were getting their bodies out of the tanks for the FIRST time, the body slipped back into the tank and a dental student got DRENCHED with liquid. That will get you over your fears fast! When you go in there for the first time just keep that in mind that someone had it loads worse!

Hello all!!!!

I've heard that we have to practice on dead people at Baylor, is it true ???

I'm so freak out, because I'm really scared of dead people 🙁 ...

Please please please tell me that it's NOT true!!!

I heard if there is a slight change in the magnetic polarity, these things will wake up again!
-Some cultures believe that if a cat jumb over the dead body, it'll wake up and starting to walk again.. :scared:
......that's why you got to really hold them down when you work with dead people :scared: 😀

I'm pretty sure you won't be practicing dentistry on the cadavers (ie. placing an amalgam, or doing crown preps...). Although, it does almost seem to be a waste of a lot of good teeth (considering they donated their bodies anyway).

It's worse when people find dissecting frustrating and start yelling/hitting at the cadavers. It's sad, very sad, but some don't see how much giving those people are.

OP: It's not easy to get acquainted with at first, but if you see the science in it, you'll be fine. As someone mentioned, it's the best way to learn this material. I wish I had taken my prof's advice more seriously and spent more time in there. Come prepared.

Ok, it's probably not as easy as biochemistry but shouldn't be bad. 🙂 I am not even sure why we need to retake biochem in dental school. 😕 Biochem = signal transductions and a couple of cycles. 👍 Seriously, how tough can that be? 👎

"Dental Anatomy" because it seems to be so easyyyyyyy... 🙂 32 teeth (8 incisors, 4 canines, 8 premolars, 12 molars) not much to it. 👍 I can't believe it's a separate course. 😱
