hello everyone...

I am currently a second year med student and am having some serious trouble grasping concepts. During my first year, I did pretty well by doing tons and tons of questions and learning that way. For whatever reason, I haven't been able to find a good source of questions thus far.

can anyone recommend me a source of practice questions with helpful explanations for pharm, path and micro/immuno?

thank you for all your help!

Where did you obtain your questions from the MS-I year?

Have you looked at the FAQ pointing to helpful books?

What are your classmates using?

Just about any review book will have questions and explanations so get something like FA (First Aid) and look at their reviews of review books, choose a few and use them if this is your study method.

You can also use old exams (most medical schools have them around in test banks or from upperclassmen) so your own school might be your best resource. Many professors have question banks that they make available to students so check with upperclassmen and see if these are available.

Many people like the Pre-Test series which are practically all questions and are subject based so check them out and see if they meet your needs.

For path, Robbins Review of Path Q Book is awesome. seriously.

I've also used PreTest for Neuro (which was low yield, IMO) and PreTest for Pharm (which was very good).

I've heard of people buying Qbank for a year and using that, but I didn't want to use it up before boards. Just a personal preference. Not to mention its $$$.

Yep this book is the bomb for path. As for the others maybe get Qbook by kaplan and the Appleton and Lange book.

Robbins review of Path and Webpath. nuff said.

I am a question person as well so here are my thoughts-
Path-
Webpath is great bc you can review the cases and modules and then do the questions. You can get some of it free, but I think most places have institutional subscriptions that get you access to more.

Robbins Q Book is ok, but in my opinion, its not a good learning tool- more a pre-test check of what you know. The questions are challenging, so I find it frustrating when I am just learning the concepts. I always save it for the weekend before the test.

I have Appleton and Lange- its nice but for path its not by organ system so I find it too time consuming to pick and choose what questions to answer.

BRS Path at the end of a chapter will have question. There are only a few (10-15) but since it's so great for boards anyway, it a good buy.

Not all have explaintions but I still find them helpful
.The Pathology Guy has some stuff on his website.

Pharm-
The Lange pharm book is awesome. It has questions that pick out the most important things to know about each drug- not just about side effects you'll never be tested on. http://www.amazon.com/Katzung-Trevo...bs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1202312555&sr=1-2

Micro

I've heard good things about the Murray Q book, but I never tried it myself

Hope this helps!
