how accurate/inaccurate is the step 1 practice session test available at the prometric center for $48 on predicting the step1 score?

i'm scheduled to take my test in a few weeks and thought i should be familiar with my surroundings so i am taking a practice session test there.

just trying to gage WHEN i should take the practice test (2 days or 2 weeks before) & if it will be disheartening or a boost of confidence right before the exam?

please help!

You take the practice test to reduce anxiety on your actual test day, not to predict your score on the actual exam. Use the NBME exams instead to help you predict your score.

I wouldn't take the Prometric exam too soon to your actual exam because it could lead to over- or under-confidence, neither of which are particularly helpful. I would vote for taking it 2 weeks before your exam.

can we take this practice test at a different location of an actual exam?

Also, not sure of this, but I think the practice test is just the 150 free questions the NBME releases, so you should avoid doing those questions before your practice test if you want it to be realistic.

Hmm really? So it's not an NBME practice test, just the free 150 with the FredV2 download?

Anyone else can confirm this?

It is the free 150.

Unless you have serious test anxiety, just do the free 150 at hoe a couple days before the real thing.

The free 150 was a great predictor. There was only an one point difference between my predicted score from the 150 and the real thing.

yeah its a set of 150 questions and from what i correlated with peoples' posts in SDN, scores ~/>93% were pretty much on their way to 236+. if nothing at all, a couple of days before the exam atleast they'll boost your confidence. though they're said to be easier than the actual exam.

someone correct me if this correlation is wrong!

93rd percentile or 93% of the questions correct?

Is the conversion for this test accurate at medfriends???
It seems reasonable; though, I the MCAT conversion is clearly skewed towards the upper end.

I guess that makes sense as people with higher scores are probably more likely to find the site and disclose.

So the exam I took today at the prometrics center was a different exam than the Free 150 provided on the usmle website. About 1/2 of the questions were the same, but the other half were completely different! I realized this after I got home to see which ones I missed and realized that half the questions weren't the same when I accessed it from home. Has anyone else had this experience?

Thats a good question.. Im planning on taking the practice test at the prometric to get over my anxiety.
Is it ideal to take it 15 or 30 days before?
