First off, I am not taking a Kaplan-type course to get ready for step I. The only thing that I wish that I had access to was the full-legth practice tests that such courses offer.

What options are there for taking full-length practice tests?

I'm just beginning my USMLE review, but I've been told that the "NMS review for USMLE step 1" is good (my friend who took the test last year said that those questions were the most representative of the real thing). Also, the Appleton and Lange review is supposed to be good. Appleton is in subject sections, so it isn't really a mock test.

I tried the Kaplan qbank during the last month of my preparation, to prepare for the 8hour straining in front of the computer screen. The questions there were really good. The nms review is indeed good. The Appleton lange review has 2 tests at the end of the book, besides the subject-based ones in the beginning. Another good source was the pretest clinical vignettes, which has 400 qs from all subjects.
