Does anyone know of people practicing in 2 different states at a time? For instance, 3 months out of the year in one state, 9 months in another? I know it would be potentially more difficult for building patient base blah blah blah, but is it possible?

although I personally do not know anyone who does this, it seems totally possible IF you are willing to be an employee not an owner. I don't see how you could own a practice or even be a partner with those arrangements.

Yes it is very possible as an employee and an owner.People living in border town do this alot.

You can absolutely practice in two states at the same time! You need to hold licenses in both of those states. I live in a city very close to the IL/WI border and have offices in both IL and WI.

You can certainly practice in two states at the same time. Louisville is on the border of KY and IN. So, many people commute from one state to the other to work. This goes on all over the U.S. There is no dental or medical board policy against it, that I'm aware of.

The biggest concern is tax liability. Some states, like NY and others, seem to punish those who work in NY, but live and work in another state, through their taxation policies. Maybe a more preferable situation is the additional state you work in has no state income tax ( FL, NV, TX, SD, WA, TN, NH, WY).

What kind of situation would you be doing with that kind of schedule (3 mos/9 mos)?

I'm curious. You certainly could work in 2 different states, but I think we are all assuming at the same time (ie 2 days here, 2 days there). As noted, the tax situation will be a little more complicated, but doable.
