Practicing In Detroit!

I received an offer from a chain for a staff position at a store in the vicinity of Detroit. Knowing the safety record of this city I am a little hesitant at practicing in it when I graduate. I was wondering if anybody has experience working in Detroit or its vicinities and how it is. Any advice will be appreciated.

Where is the vicinity?There's a huge difference between Detroit and metro Detroit.

It is between Detroit/Redford city limits around Mcnichols and Telegraph!

First be thankful you got offered a job. I did my community rotation in Redford and one thing you have to look out for are the control drug seekers, but you experience that wherever you go. Telegraph is a very busy road with a lot of shops and it's actually the safer part of the Detroit area. Of course it no Bloomfield Hills but you don't have to worry as much as if you were on the east side.
