Hi I have a quick question for all of you.
I was wondering if there is anyway for a DO to practice medicine in Japan.
I just graduated from my undergraduate institution and am waiting to hear from medical schools. So far, I have an acceptance to Westren University, but have not heard from any MD schools.

Also, do you think if I were to practice medicine in Japan, then would you think foreign MD schools would be better (such as St. Georges or Ross) than DO schools?

Please let me know what you know about this topic,

Thank you very much in advance,

(btw, I speak both Japanese and English fluently...)

I'm not sure about the practice rights about DOs in Japan. As long as you become fully licensed in the U.S. (i.e. comple residency), you might have a shot. Because I know that they are uptight about foreign doctors, you may have to complete ACGME residency. You will have to sit for their board exam in that case. Alternative would be to go work at the U.S. bases located in Japan as I assume you only need U.S. license in the base.

I wouldn't recommend going to foreign MD schools. I know a Japanese guy that went to medical school in Mexico. They wouldn't even let him sit for the boards in Japan because his medical school was in the third world country. So if you want to goto foreign schools, places like England and Australia maybe fine.

I am going DO, and I also wonder about practice rights in Japan since I'm from there and in case I wanted to go back. I have yet to meet a foreign national practicing medicine there though.

my understanding: Practicing as MD or DO in Japan is difficult to impossible. The language alone.. except for dr.Z and a few others, is a problem.
