It's that time of year. Which professional organizations do you belong to? Which are worth the membership fees and which aren't? I had it so good as a student and resident - everything was like $30. Now I'm trying to decide where I get my money's worth in terms of resources, publications, CEs, etc.

I'm considering:

ACCP - $215
State PhA - $395 (!)
ASHP - $205ish

None-

They really don't demonstrator that they can use my money in any sort of good fashion, esp APha. I would join my local NY chapter but the dues are pretty steep (~300) and I don't really have the money for it.

If you want free CE, contact the magazines for free subscriptions. Many of them will give you it for free including Drug Topics and Pharmacy Times

I would go with ACCP if you have a clinical specialty... The Practice & Research Networks (PRNs) cost a little extra but may be worth it to you. You can e-mail the listserv with questions and bounce ideas off other experts in your field.

If you plan to continue attending ASHP meetings, I would keep your ASHP membership current. Look into your state's branch of ASHP, too. They often offer free CE and a chance to get involved locally without spending a fortune.

wow...you really turned into a dork!

I am only a member of ACCP. For me, it's worth it, for the PRN (adult medicine) and for pharmacotherapy journal.

currently ASHP and ACCP, but I'm only paying resident rates.

I imagine I'll stick with ACCP and just possibly ASHP in the future. I <3 the PRNs!

I've always been a dork, I think.

I probably don't need to be in both ACCP and ASHP. I didn't use my ACCP membership very well as a resident because I don't remember it being all that valuable. I use ASHP a lot more. BUT, I'm planning to take the BCPS next year so...

I wish there were reduced rates for people who only want to receive journals electronically. Surely it would cost slightly less than print. It's just a lot of money on top of what I'll be shelling out for BCPS prep and the test, license renewal fees, etc.
