Hi, curious if anyone on here has any insight.

I am a dual US-EU citizen, planning on going to vet school in US (~200k) loans, doing an income-driven repayment plan, and hopefully practicing in the EU, specifically the Netherlands (my bf is Dutch and we would like to settle there). Does anyone have any insight/experience on what it's like working there, for less pay than in US, but having US loans to pay off? I also plan on specializing and doing a PhD, so the time in school will be longer. I would like to consider my bf out of the picture with repayment for the sake of the question.
Thanks!

Have you considered going to one of the AVMA accredited vets schools in the UK?

I don't know how it works with paying off student loans, but I can tell you more about working in the Netherlands.

I think starting salary for a new grad is about 40.000 eu (fulltime based). Compared to the student loans in the US, the loans in the Netherlands are way lower. I think a 60.000 eu student loan at the end of the study is already quite high, I ended with only 2.500 of student loan. Vet med is 6 years in the Netherlands and our school is also AVMA accredited.

Regarding specialising or a PhD, maybe doing that one in the Netherlands is also an option? It is maybe easier to start working in an university environment, since most people speak English.

Information about the registration process is stated here: Registration with a foreing diploma from outside the EEA and Switzerland

@starscollidehi

I don't have any specific advice for your question, but I'd seriously look into going to an EU school if you can. You may be eligible for subsidized EU resident rates, which may net you a significant cost savings compared to tuition in a US school.
