Hi Everyone
I have been practicing in the U.S for 8 years now. I went to dental school in India and got my first dental license from the State of Minnesota. I was not able to do advanced standing DDS or MS but I did one year AEGD program before I went into practice.
I am a pre fellow with AGD and will be taking my exams next year to qualify for FAGD in 2018.
I am 39 years old now. My Part I board score was 87 and Part II is 85 took both of them in 2003. I'm an associate making about 220k before taxes. I have been restoring implants and want to learn placing implants.
I am planning to enroll in one of the implant courses (6 weekends by Dr. Garg or others) but I am skeptical as how much I can learn. From what I have read in this forum and talking to others I have three options.
Option 1: Keep taking different implant courses and keep the current job so I don't lose the income.
Option 2: Enroll in to Implant Fellowship program in Loma Linda or Tufts or other programs for 1-2 years program.
Option 3: Seek admission to a perio program which is about 3 years.
Here are the questions:
a. Since I did not complete a formal education in the U.S with exception to AEGD program I am very interested in pursuing Masters program either in Implant Dentistry or Perio with focus on implants.
b. Is it financially worth to leave 3 years of income and do a Perio program?
c. If I need to apply for Perio program I guess I have to take NBDE again and also complete FAGD and apply for class of 2018
What do you all think?
Any comments appreciated.
