Hi all, i was recently accepted to the UH at Hilo and was wondering if there was a great risk involved with their pre-candidate status. I read about the previous Hawaii pharmacy program that was abolished, and though the two aren't affiliated in anyway I was wondering if there is a high degree of risk involved with me going there. Thanks in advance.

The numbers and history shows that these schools generally make it. Like you said, it only takes being at the wrong place at the wrong time to be in a bad situation.

I wouldn't say that there's a high risk but you should keep it in mind.

Fear no more, UH-Hilo has received Candidate status from ACPE this month!

Congrats!

Besides HICP never even received pre-cand. They just lied to their students that they did.

awesome news! I just saw that on the website

Pre-Candidate status implies a school is attempting to create a pharmacy school basically. During the first year, the school gets their act together and starts forming goals that meet the standards needed to be a fully accredited school in the future. Once the school obtains candidate status, it has basically met the standards necessary to become fully accredited minus one thing.... a graduating class. So, after that first graduating class, the school will go through the final accredidation piece. In the end, if you choose to go to a school that is not fully accredited yet.... you have to put your trust into them that they are going to do what it takes to get fully accredited. I have been accepted to pharmacy school in Ohio, and I am in this same situation. I trust, though, that my school will complete the accredidation process. Let's hope, because I will be a P3 before they become fully accreditted 🙂
