Is it totally irrelevant? I would assume so but just wanted to double check with others.

I have an opportunity to work as a part-time physician assistant scribe. Although, I am already volunteering at the local VA hospital and shadowing/assisting at their dental clinic.

Probably not, no. But most undergrad jobs aren't very relevant are they?

Are you saying "no" to being a medical scribe as a dental school applicant being irrelevant or relevant (for the experience and apps)?

Oh yeah, I'm saying it's not too relevant. I mean unless you plan to work in a hospital, it certainly is more relevant than other jobs as an undergrad though, for example I work in IT which has like zero relevance to dentistry or medicine.

Thanks!

I'm part-owner of a family restaurant so that's where I work (no way around it/got sucked into it to help support the family) #asianproblems. I was thinking increasing my exposure to clinical environments, in general, would be beneficial.

I feel ya, also Asian and was sucked into computers and programming when I was young. Lol, but yeah at least it's medically related, couldn't hurt and maybe you'll get to see some cool procedures!

Nice! I think I'll send in my application, then.

Yeah, lol. I'm south Asian. My [single] parent expected me to be extremely involved/work with them in all of our family businesses growing up. It has been a real b*tch trying to make it on the dental school route, but I'm almost there. Can't wait to do what I want (and not what I'm forced to) for once.

Haha I'm viet and my dad (engineer) told me not to be involved in engineering! But yeah, it can definitely be a pain working around a strict Asian family, especially since most of my family is FOB within the past decade, not understanding how much work I put into school and stuff. Did you apply this cycle?

Ugh! That is completely how it is. It is so worth it to stand up to them and do what you want! It gives me so much happiness.

According to my mother, I should have "just become a nurse" (since it only takes 4 years) and been married already. She was plucked straight out of a village before she moved here and isn't college educated so we don't see eye-to-eye on career goals often (mostly, getting her to understand the time/commitment/discipline involved in getting there).

I am applying in the upcoming cycle. Preparing for the DAT and acing biochem 2 exams as we speak (not bragging, but it has been the most fun class for me so far. I struggled with almost everything else.)

Yup, my family is finally starting to see how hard I work and next is getting my little cousin to college (who is also a FOB). My family is always wondering where I am on the weekends when I'm mostly studying or working but they make a big deal when I don't see them.

I'm also applying next cycle so good luck on your DAT and next semester. I'm a junior biochem major so I understand the love for biochemistry 🙂!
