Hi, i am planning a long road ahead to becoming a dentist. I have many questions! My choices of dental schools are Nova and UF. Which is better? Which is cheaper? Which is easier to get in?

Do I need get my bachelor degree/4 yrs of under-grad before I can go to dental school?

If I get accepted into the dental program, am i require to do the dental program full time?

Thanks for all ur help!🙂

umm lets see...

1) They are both very good schools

2) UF is cheaper, b/c I assume you are from florida... Otherwise, Nova would be cheaper.

3) They are both very tough to get into

4) You need a degree before you can get into dental school

5) You have to do it full time... No such thing as part time.

6) You really are a newbie...

Are you a freshman? If so I advise you to start learning as much as you can from your gen bio and chem classes and from the book.

Hi HurricaneZ.

First thing I would suggest is to actively seek out information about the dental schools in which you are interested. www.ada.org offers a list of dental schools that are accredited. You can visit the school's website to find details on tuition, requirements, whether a degree is required, and so forth. Not every dental school requires a degree. Some require a certain number of years of coursework and others have joint BS/DDS or BS/DMD degrees.

You seem very excited about the prospect of getting into a dental school, but I suggest that you research on the web to answer all your questions. Join a pre-dental club on your campus if there is one on your campus!!

And yes, I believe full-time dental student is the only way!

Good luck!

really? because last time i checked, though not recommended most schools seem to only REQUIRE about 90semester hours while fulfilling a certain number of hours of bio, chem, math, english, etc. so I actually dont think that you absolutely NEED a degree to apply, though it does make your application more complete. becasue i had actually been debating whether i myself should just do 2,3 or 4 years of undergraduate study. 90 hours + prereqs in 2 years was actually achievable for me, and i was seriously considering it but decided to do 3 years instead. that gave me an option to either get a degree(120-134 hours); where i would basically be focusing more on the academic aspect, or i could still take some fairly relavent courses and focus a more on non academic aspects. which of the two i still have not decided on yet...

but either way, i do believe that most dental schools will allow you to apply without a degree, you had just be sure that you have a lot to make up for that

It depends. Some schools will want you to have your degree before you matriculate, and some schools are not that strict about it.

However, like you said, for ALL schools, you stats better be stellar (3.7+, 21+) if you are planning to get in without one.

Speak with your with your adviser they will tell you what it all entails, in the mean time take a look at UF's website, and that will give you a better idea of what you need.

The other posts answer your questions, if you have more post'em up.
