For those who have interviewed at Vandy, can you let me know if the pre-interview dinner is a one-to-one (i.e. one resident - one applicant) affair or if its the usual group one (i.e. many applicants - few residents)?

I realize that this would be a function of the number of candidates that they'd be interviewing on that particular day. The reason I'm asking this is because I feel more comfortable with the one on one dinner.

Thanks 🙂

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by one-to-one, as I have yet to experience that at any of the dinners I've attended, but the Vandy dinner is pretty laid back. Basically everyone sat at one big long table with residents and applicants mixed in throughout. Given the seating arrangement, I talked with a few applicants and probably 3-4 residents who were near me. Overall, it was a very laid back and pretty much par for the course as far as the dinners go. Hope this helps.

I think what the OP meant was that does A resident take you out to a quiet dinner. I know this happens at the University of Arkansas (had received it in the invitation email) where one resident takes you with/without your SO to a quiet restaurant in town. But yep, you are right - except for that one program, I havent come across any others that have the one-on-one dinner, at least in IM.

You should go to the dinner at Vandy. I thought the restaurant was great. The interview group was small (~8 or so), so you get close contact with residents. They will also have a lunch during the interview day that has about 2 residents to 2/3 applicants.

I thought they put on an exceptional interview day, so go to the all the activities... you will not regret it. I believe in the afternoon if you want that you can go out with a resident and talk more in detail (like to Ben and Jerry's).
