Was wondering how to go about the pre-match paperwork?

1) is a letter offering the position enough?

2) when are pre-match contracts given?

Have signed the letter accepting the position which the PD also signed but was told the university actually doesnt offer pre-matches so we cant give a contract till after Match...has anyone else run into this issue?

I dont wanna bug the program and seem like I am not trusting them or I am doubting them and piss them off.

I accepted a prematch offer and was given a current copy of the 2011-2012 residency contract to sign. It was also signed by the PD & Medical Director & a copy was sent to me. The residency coordinator told me that I would sign an updated contract after the match in March to reflect the current salary etc.

Sounds fishy! So then are you supposed to rank them and participate in the match? Or are they going to "lie" to the university and say that you matched through the match?

If they are telling you to withdraw from the match and you don't have all of the required signatures I would tell them to go to hell. However, if they are saying that you should participate in the match and rank us 1 and we will rank you to match that's different as you have nothing to lose (other than possibly another legit pre-match).

no they told me to withdraw from the match

3 Options:

1) Get a lawyer to review the contract and tell you if it is binding as is (i.e. lacking the signature from the university representative).

2) Tell them to go to hell and participate in the match.

3) Withdraw from the match and see what happens.

I would go with option 1 and unless it is legally binding then I would go with option 2.

However, if you don't think you have any reasonable chance at matching at other places, then just go with option 3.

I've heard horror stories of programs retracting their offers in cases where the contracts weren't completely legit!

This may affect the rest of your life or at least the next year; So choose carefully!

Good Luck!

usmlelost, i've prematched as well and signed a letter of intent. i don't think you have much to worry about... i'd like to believe that PDs are honorable and keep their word. if they have offered you a position and gave you a signed letter of intent, then i'd feel safe withdrawing from NRMP. i guess contracts are updated in the spring to reflect salaries etc., so i won't be signing a contract until march either.

Usmlelost, I signed a letter of intent one month back and was in an almost identical position as yours. The PD told me that the program doesn't normally offer prematches, so I'll have to wait till after the match to sign the official contract. Like Sinnamon said, I'd like to believe that PDs are honorable and had no qualms withdrawing from NRMP. And true to his word, I saw in the NRMP website that he has withdrawn one of the spots from the match. So have faith and I am sure that everything will be fine 🙂

Where did you find spots per program for this year's match???

Where did you find spots per program for this year's match???

A) Check how many spots the program is offering in total by:
1) Searching in Freida and/or
2) Reading through the program website - Most places mention it here

B) Check how many spots the program is offering through the MATCH by:
1) Logging in to the NRMP Website
2) Click on "directory" at the top of the lefthand menu
3) Search for your program

A minus B = Number of spots removed from the match (ie. offered via prematches)

Hope this helps.

ya i just did that and seems the program has not removed the position from the match...i guess im just going to have to take their word and their sign letter of intent on the position. Makes no sense for them to offer me a position just to fill it with someone else. Programs arent desperate or shady like that.

Great info!

In my case, I signed a pre-match. I sent the signed contract but the places for Program Director and the Designed Medical Education ... something like that, those 2 spaces were left blank. So...

Should I wait until I get a copy of that document with all the signatures to withdraw from the match? I am violating match rules if I do not withdraw right now? I sent the document to the program yesterday and is coming to them soon, maybe tomorrow, or Do I have still time to wait for my copy and then to withdraw before Feb 22?

Thanks in advance!
