Pre-med class requirements.

Hi everyone , I'm a senior in high school but I want to know certain things before I go to college. I tried to read books about medical schools and their requirements but i'm still not sure about the classes I should take.

Can anyone tell me a time line of what classes I should take as a pre-med student in college. For instance in freshman year I should take....... sophomore..... etc.

Once I decide which college to go to I will go and find a counselor that I will help me plan my path but I want to hear from others experience.

Chem 1 year, bio 1 year, o-chem 1 year, physics 1 year, english 1 year, ( 1 year of college math).

You can do a lot of things.
Freshman year : Bio 1, Bio 2, chem 1, chem 2
summer freshman or sophomore: O-chem or physics
Sophomore year : O-chem or physics
is the best choice. However you could also take O-chem sophomore year and physics junior year.

If you want to go to a FL school, most of them have biochem is a requirement too. A lot of other schools kind of expect biochem too, even if it's not an official prereq for a school.

Microbio, anatomy, and genetics are good extra ones to take in order to do well on the MCAT and impress the adcoms.

It really all depends on what you're interested in/how much you think you're ready for, etc. Like, going in, I didn't know I wanted to be a bio major, so I only took gen. chem this year. Next year I'll take bio and organic chem, and junior year I'll take physics. It's all up to you how you go about it, and I'm sure your pre-med adviser will point you in the right direction. 🙂
