Relationships take up too much time. I have resolved to the fact that I will probably stay single through med school. Now a casual thing is another story of course, after all I am human. It would take a pretty special girl for me to attach the old ball and chain at this point.

+1

Convincing yourself that school takes up too much time to have a relationship? That sounds like a recipe for bitterness and loneliness to me. It's also totally false. Med school doesn't make relationships easy, but there's certainly time for them.

👍

FWIW, i also wish there was an "it's complicated" option on this poll

Actually, I think medical school may very well be the best time. It sure isn't getting any better during residency and fellowship..

Don't get me wrong, I date and stuff. I am sure I will probably meet someone that will foil my plan. It might work if it is a fellow student, but it seems it would be pretty hard to get a relationship off the ground when med school takes up so much time and emotional commitment.

we shud seperate it into a female and male poll too. just because im quite interested in the numbers and whether there are any differeces in attachment between males and females 😀

Being single wasn't in itself all that much fun. I'm sure people with more interesting lives than I would take advantage of their singleness while it lasts, but unfortunately I squandered mine. Alas... 🙄

My girlfriend dumped me, I don't feel so free. 🙁

🙁 I'm sorry!! I know how that feels... it was hard for me too at first. But you feel like complete crap for a little while and then things start looking up. You have black days and white days. At first, it's all black days, then mostly black days, and then about half white days and half black days. Pretty soon, there are mostly white days and having a black day every once in awhile is ok.

And you're going to be a doctor!

I could never figure out what was fun about being single when I was single. Philandering is fun... but I kind of doubt that's what you meant.

Do you know what sucks? The following situation has happened to me on multiple occasions. You are single and can't get a girl. You get a girlfriend and all of a sudden there are girls all over the place that are interested in you. Things don't work out with the girl you were seeing, and likewise all the other girls seem to have vanished as well. Admit it ladies, you like guys with girlfriends.

Are you male or female? It makes a difference. But yeah I know what you mean. The first few days it was all pain and misery then I started looking forward to a brighter future and that helped. I guess I'm halfway there. Half bad days and half ok/good days. 🙁

There could be a few different things going on there, or all of them:

First, it could be you. You may act differently when you have a girlfriend. Probably more laid back and confident. You may act less like a predator stalking a bunny.

Additionally, it seems a minority of girls like the challenge and ego boost of "stealing" somebody else's guy. It convinces them they're hot and can get a guy wanted by others.

And finally, you just notice it more when you have a girlfriend and another girl notices you. You're like, "Why now? Why couldn't she have shown interest earlier when I was free?" But you don't notice it when you are free... well not in the negative way at least. 🙂

Pre-Med dating an attending here. Its pretty much fail.....just in two totally different places. I wouldn't mind dating during med school although I would rather find someone in residency so distance doesn't become a major issue. For the most part, I'm more interested in accomplishing my dream of becoming a doctor and everything else is a distant second. may seem sad to some, but I find myself incredibly fulfilled.

....plus, random (and not so random) flirting is fun. 😳😳

Single is fun because you don't have to work at it and you can convince yourself of all these girls (or guys) that are open possibilities if you so chose. Really though, being in a good relationship is so much better. But that's just my opinion.

Been in a committed relationship for over a year and a half. This whole med school thing complicates things.

Then what is fun about being single? I guess being single is better than being in a dramatic and bad relationship. But a good relationship seems, in all ways, better than being single to me.

It's fun to just flirt. Plus, I don't have to worry about someone else's feelings during all of this. I have no problem with being in a relationship, but now's just not the time for it.

Hahaha, this thread is win!! I am actually surprised at how many ppl are in committed relationships, (5 yrs here 😱). Besides, some ladies (gents) do appreciate some intelligence in their mates I guess. so DON'T lose hope lol.

Single for several reasons.

First, I'm WAY too picky for my own good, both in terms of personality and looks. Don't know why.

Second, I have a horrible tendency to not realize a girl is flirting with me until 20 seconds after I've left her presence.

Third, I have another horrible tendency to get along very well with women in relationships, and I won't cross that line intentionally (a girl lied about being single once, but I felt no real guilt since I didn't find out til after). I don't see the point of having an official bf/gf if you're not going to be faithful.

Finally, I have to admit I'm kinda lazy. When it comes to finding women, I'm much more of a fisherman than a hunter. Oh and occasionally I'm the deer in headlights. That's always fun and scary.

While I certainly wouldn't mind a relationship, I'm content being single right now. Life's quite easy this way.
