Relationships are too complicated. Someone needs to tell me if I should marry my girlfriend before med school or not.

A committed relationship is worth about taking 6 credits and doing some extensive research.

Relationship drama scares me!

My best friend broke up with her boyfriend one month ago, and now she is still not over him 🙁 I'm not sure if I'm ready for it yet. But yeah, relationship takes up too much time.

I'm in a committed relationship. How it happened was the perfect storm. Going on three years now.

Edit: For the record, I am taking over 20 credit hours and I have loads of time to hang with my partner. I don't agree with any of the excuses people have made to be single. We as humans are not meant to be alone, and if you are single, it's okay but just know being in a relationship > being single 🙂

So glad I have your approval... 🙄

I am honestly a bit frustrating on this issue. I haven't had a date in my life. In middle school, I partied a lot but I did not ask anyone out. In high school, I focused on studying. In college, I am trying to study and participate in ECs.

My life is very busy at the moment. Although I am doing the ECs I enjoy, I am still busy. I am worried that I won't be able to acquire the necessary skills to get a girlfriend and make her happy. 🙁

Well, at least, I found 50% of premeds here are simple. It's kinda a good relief for me.

Being single and having never been on a date are 2 completely different playing fields. And most of the single guys here are content with being single, unlike you. Don't worry about it too much, you'll get a girl when the time is right.

Definitely single! I tried the whole relationship thing my freshman year, and it's just too distracting right now.

Also, it's hard to date someone who doesn't understand the kind of time commitment pre-med/med school requires! I still go out on dates now and then but some of the guys I've gone out with get fairly annoyed when I occasionally tell them I have to stay in and study.

If a really, really, really great/understanding guy came along, I might re-evaluate my views. But he'd have to be pretty darn fantastic and pretty darn understanding.

Otherwise, it's SINGLE, and I'm totally okay with that. 😀

I have to disagree with the comment "being in a relationship > being single."

For some yes, for others no. At certain times yes, at certain times no. It requires the right person being with the right person for a relationship to be better than being single. Therefore, my being single > being in a relationship at the moment. I could be in a relationship right now if I so desired, but I don't see myself being happier in a relationship with the people I could be with than I am now.

So, it's different for different people. Some people (like myself) are content on their own until the right someone comes along. And some people are content being single forever. Varies. 🙂

47% single? That's perilously close to 50%. I'd better get myself a girlfriend.

I'm planning on asking my girlfriend (pre-pharm student) to marry me in about a month or so. I'm totally stoked.

I can agree with you that there are times in my life that I would have been happier being single, i.e. why I broke up with specific girls.

But you said it yourself, if Mr. Perfect came along you would consider a relationship. In the long run we are all looking for a partner (even those who are content with being single, our natural instinct especially as males is to have a partner to mate and reproduce with), thats the point I was trying to make in a kind've sarcastic post.

Edit: Some people are meant to be single forever though.

I'm single, after getting out of a relationship with a Urology fellow a couple of months ago. My studies and him being in his last year of residency before he entered his fellowship ruined the relationship. It was too hard to maintain it, especially with us wanting different things - he talked about marriage, and I was not feeling it (I'm still pre-med).

Sometimes I want to get married desperately, even though I'm too young to get married. Just like some previous posts have mentioned, when time is right, and when the perfect person comes along, $^$^&*(*&&*^^%^$% 🙂 (Sorry, I get excited when I imagine that moment. Perfect wedding day!)

Relationships take up too much time. I have resolved to the fact that I will probably stay single through med school. Now a casual thing is another story of course, after all I am human. It would take a pretty special girl for me to attach the old ball and chain at this point.

I think it feels that way when you aren't with somebody who has similar needs/interests/ambitions as you. You wouldn't be too busy to date another student, or somebody who does the same recreational activities as you, because it would involve things you'd be doing anyway.

Dang, I want to revote as It's complicated... To marry or not to marry, that is the question...:boom:

I want to be married but don't want to get married. Weddings seem like such a pain in the butt unless you're just there mooching.

Single and not too proud of it 🙁

It's not really something to be ashamed of. It's not necessarily your fault you haven't found the right person. It's a cruel game of chance. In the meantime, improve yourself so that when you run into the right person your chances are maximized.

I am single, but it's a choice. I'm just exhausted from relationships, an effect that's most likely caused by the failure of my last relationship that lasted two years. I also turned a great friend into a rebound shortly afterward, so I think I just need some time to myself for now.

That is exactly how I felt before I started med school. But I have changed my mind. I am a third year med student and have a fantastic girlfriend who keeps me grounded and sane (She is not a med student and has zero interest in science). I am doing well in med school and am enjoying my life much more than if I was a med student 24/7.

Plus, you are not going to turn into a dating machine as a resident. You will not have time. So live a balanced life and try to enjoy the journey and not defer living until some projected point in the future that may never arrive.

Hahaha, this thread is win!! I am actually surprised at how many ppl are in committed relationships, (5 yrs here 😱). Besides, some ladies (gents) do appreciate some intelligence in their mates I guess. so DON'T lose hope lol.

are we intelligent? or merely able to memorize a ton of info at a drop of a dime

Partying in middle school? What, your mom let you have 2 juice boxes instead of 1?

Single for several reasons.

First, I'm WAY too picky for my own good, both in terms of personality and looks. Don't know why.

Second, I have a horrible tendency to not realize a girl is flirting with me until 20 seconds after I've left her presence.

Third, I have another horrible tendency to get along very well with women in relationships, and I won't cross that line intentionally (a girl lied about being single once, but I felt no real guilt since I didn't find out til after). I don't see the point of having an official bf/gf if you're not going to be faithful.

Finally, I have to admit I'm kinda lazy. When it comes to finding women, I'm much more of a fisherman than a hunter. Oh and occasionally I'm the deer in headlights. That's always fun and scary.

While I certainly wouldn't mind a relationship, I'm content being single right now. Life's quite easy this way.

Azrael, I couldn't agree with you any more.

I also have very high standards and easily pick out flaws in women. Not only that, but the idea of dating under a bf/gf system and breaking up some odd weeks or months later doesn't appeal much to me.

At any rate, chicks have a hard time figuring me out. My character is way too complex and nebulous for them to have any sense of what I am. I could imagine all the painstaking patience it would take for a poor girl, so I just leave her be.

This wouldn't be funny if not for your avatar.

Yeah exactly. The world's supposed to end on December 21st, 2012 anyway. Must be the hadron collider.:meanie:

*sigh* Girls are complicated... and sadly, we men are idiots who can't stay away because they're pretty. 😍

I'm single at the moment. Learning to be patient about if and when that will change, as it certainly won't until after I get to med school. Starting something now that will become long distance and severely time-restricted in less than nine months would be dumb.

that is how i felt, until i got into the school that my gf currently attends

Will be leaving for med school with a 1.5 yr relationship. Normally I would end it- but this one is special so a year long distance is not going to hurt things.

Honestly to those saying you're too busy for a girlfriend...if this is really true you will always be too busy for one and by no means will you ever have enough time for a family.

If you don't want a relationship now and truely enjoy being single, thats totally fine- but don't make excuses saying the only reason your single is due to time constraints. If that's true you may end up alone sadly..

And don't forget that after you're in med school mates will always see you differently. Whether or not they are aware of it- partners will judge you on your elite status. Not saying that theres a ton of gold diggers out there, but you have to be careful to find someone who really loves you for you and not the status/salary you bring to the table.

I've seen several friends fall victim to this, so just use common sense and follow your heart 🙂

I can relate to this. I went through 4-5 gf's until I found one that "got me". The others I just didn't click with and I was so messed up psychologically from the breakups because they had me believing I had something wrong with me.

Turns out we just didn't click...so yes it can be frustrating as hell and its great to take breaks from dating. Things will work out in the end buddy

An M4 I stayed with told me that Thanksgiving break of M1 year for many long-distance couples is the last Thanksgiving together. Many come back from the break as single.

The phenomenon known as the 'Turkey Drop'...

Good to know bro. I'm just hoping I can come across a dedicated, strong-minded woman who can put up with the fact that I'm often an ass.

Some of the best I've seen you give 👍

This is a common misinterpretation of what the Mayan calendar is indicating. It's not the end of the world. 👎

lol, obviously it was a total joke. I also don't really believe the hadron collider will end the world. Is there a sarcasm emoticon I can use for you?
