Is it possible for a medical graduate to go straight into an emergency medicine residency or is a transitional year a requirement? 😎

All 3 year resiency programs have you going straight into EM. You'll do off-service (out of the ED) rotations, but you'll still be a EM resident. Most 4 year programs have you in the ED for all 4 years, and some 4 year programs have you do a transitional year or a prelim year in medicine or surgery.

Just to expound, these are called 1-3, 1-4, and 2-4 respectively.
