To get more exposure to the healthcare industry, I have been volunteering at a hospital for 6 hours a week. In terms of extracurriculars, are there any other sort of activities that med schools like to see applicants doing other than volunteering at a hospital?

Consider research, leadership, teaching, physician shadowing, and nonmedical community service. Clinical experience can be gained in other settings than a hospital, like a clinic, nursing home, or hospice, rehab center, EMT, etc.

I am doing research where I videotape babies being immunized during their first year of life. It takes place in a pediatric office...would that be considered clinical experience? I get to talk to the doctor and other staff all day...but it's also a paid job, not volunteering.
