Is it me or does everyone that works in the premed office have an attitude? This chick today was talkin to me like I was completely ******ed when I asked her a simple question. It really makes me hate when I have to go in there.

I haven't been in mine once!!! I have heard horror stories about late and lost LORs, advising students to apply in October, etc.

this is universal for all pre-med offices

i asked for advice at my pre-med office once, and the next time i go to see the biology department's advisor, he started reprimanding me for some of the stuff i talked about with my pre-med advisor. Arent they supposed to maintain confidentiality?? Or is the Biology dept advisor sleeping with one of the pre-med advisors? 😱

Mine sucked too. I was handed a podiatry school packet and told to start forgetting about med school when my GPA dipped to a 3.0 after a rough semester. Nothing wrong w/ pod. school but she tried to convince me to give up my dreams. I never went back to her for anything except for a mandatory graduation audit. If it weren't for SDN I may have taken her seriously and not have an acceptance in my hand after all.

The same thing happened to me.

I think im going to go to the office and see what my chances are of getting into a DO school.

I went to a lesser known state school and the pre-med advisor was a Carribean graduate. I think transferred to a well-known university and expected the pre-med office to have even more info. Much to my dismay I showed up and students were the advisors and assumed I was an idiot. They started asking if my premed courses transferred over to the university, as if med schools wouldn't consider my prereqs if my undergrad university didn't cosider them equivalent in their curriculum.

PM me, and I can give you a good idea.

No bad experiences here, although I haven't started the application yet. The advisor was the associate dean of my college and now is the interim dean. She's very amiable and so is the secretary. I haven't heard horror stories originating about that office. Thank lord.

Keep in mind that if you are a marginal applicant, the premed office may be trying to dissuade you from applying to medical school because if you don't get in, it will make their % of accepted students drop. Since many aspiring pre-meds look at numbers like that, schools often have a vested interest in keeping their acceptance rate high.

I hated my premed office too. The clerk thought he ran the place, and was very rude and refused to admit when he made mistakes with my application. Often I think that I got into my school despite the best efforts of my premed office, not because of them.
