There are a few threads pertaining to what the typical day for a med student looks like so I thought it'd be interesting to see what a pre-med's typical day/week looks like.

Discuss.

There isn't a typical day/week for a pre-med student. Every student at the undergraduate level has different stuff going on.

You can say a medical student has a typical day/week because the structure of classes and social events is similar to high school. Having said that, a medical student doesn't need to fall into the trap of the typical medical student routine.

Yes but you know what I mean...

Okay...lol

perhaps I should have been more specific. I was just trying to figure out how you guys balance your schedules to fit in extracurricular activities, work, schoolwork, etc because I felt like I was overloading myself.

don't do too much, I guess.

Now that is a better question. How about you post your schedule and we can give some feedback.

For me, I worked early in the morning before classes, attended classes during the day and spent time studying between classes (packed my own lunch to save time and money...usually eat with the wife), and worked later afternoon...did volunteer work during days I didn't have class or had open time. I didn't do all of my ec's at once....had to spread them out because of conflicting schedules.

Basically, when I wasn't working or had classes, I spent time studying, spent time with my wife, and did some ec's.

If you have hard classes during a semester, cut back on some other stuff so you can spend more time with the classes.

I awake every morning at 3:30 am to Hektor, my premedical advisor beating me with a rusty stretch of barbed wire.

By 4am I arrive in the library to study for the MCAT, Hektor has prepared my usual breakfast shake of coffee, adderall and cow brain (to stimulate neuron growth).

I skip my 8-11am non-science classes, a letter from Hektor explaining I am pre-med is sufficient to grant me an "A", and go to the research lab. There I continued to develop my combination AIDS/Cancer cure.

At noon, I skip lunch and head to the gym. Hektor had informed me that schools gave preference to musicians and athletes so I had worked out a regimen where I bench-press a grand piano while playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

1-3pm Orgo

3-5pm Orgo Lab 🙁

5pm I return to the library and locate the books the professor had referenced in class. I forge fake chapters and replace them within the text. If the rest of the class isn't smart enough to pick up on the subtle factual inaccuracies, they don't deserve to call themselves pre-med.

8pm Dinner consisting of horse testicles and a light salad.

9pm I review the day's orgo lectures looking for any inaccuracies. I then e-mail the professor an extensive list of detailed questions ensuring that he is unable to respond to other students.

11pm Read the Harvard and WashU Medical School websites for an hour. Try to decide which school would be better for a Plastics residency.

12pm Go to bed, dream of SN2 reactions

Typical Pre-med schedual:

5:00am - Wake up
5:05am - 7:13am - Study biochemistry textbook in the hopes that it will prepare you for the mcat
7:14am - Sneak into premed suitemate's bedroom and take his biochemistry textbook so you'll have the advantage in the application process.
7:21am - Sneak into the guy across the hall's room and take his biochemistry textbook for the same reason.
7:29am - Rush to the parking lot so you can polish your organic chem professor's car to make sure you get a good letter of recommendation.
7:38am - Bypass the homeless guy who was laying in the street after being hit by a car because the time spent with him won't count towards your hospital volunteer hours.
8:00am - Hospital volunteering for two hours, 105 minutes of which include going to the bathroom, staring at the guy with an amputated foot, and drinking coffee.
10:00am - Physics class
10:05am - Give the guy who asked you a question the wrong answer so that you'll be able to beat him on the exam.
12:25pm - put on a pair of scrubs and go on SDN to browse the physician forum and pretend that you're a doctor. Be sure to tell the attending physicians there what medicine is all about.
3:00pm - Go visit the office hours of the various TAs for your classes and make sure you complain about getting only a 9/10 on the homework assignments worth .004% of your grade.
7:00pm - More SDN. Tell everyone in the "What are my chances" subforum to not bother applying so they won't provide any competition.
11:00pm - Go to sleep dreaming of becoming a doctor.

I also did some work study as a lab assistant during the day. I filled in ec's during the open time.

Days differ from semester to semester but here are some of my favorites

Mondays freshman year
8:30-2pm Classes (doesn't matter which one and I might've had an hour break for lunch)
2:30-3:00 walk to school where I volunteer
3:00-7:00pm tutor kids that don't want to learn
7-7:30 dinner
7:30-8 get ready for work, walk there
8pm-1am- work at on campus coffee shop where everyone yelled at me because coffee is apparently more important than being decent to another human being
1am - 1:10 am - try not to get killed walking home
1:10am - ? try to fall asleep and obsessing about not being able to study on Mondays

Last summer while preparing for MCAT (note this was every weekday)
8:30-11am Princeton Review class
11am-5pm Work at lab where I received summer fellowship for $5000
5pm-10pm Work at second job because my first installment of my fellowship went straight to the Princeton Review and I needed money to buy food
10pm-? Try to study MCAT while my inconsiderate roommate invited everyone she knew over and yelled at me for being rude

party from 9 to 5 then from 5 to 9, yea, sounds bout right.

No really sometimes I find myself stepping back and taking two deep breaths, regaining my composure and then taking on the brute that is my life.
