I got accepted to hunter college, city college and stony brook university. I want to become a doctor and was wondering which college is the best for pre medical program. Also which do u think is best between the cunys ( city and hunter ) ?

all advice is greatly appreciated
😀

Stony Brook without a doubt a better place to peruse a degree in anything. I'll like to add that a pre-med program is a combination of 8 semesters of classes( o-chem,physics,chem,bio) of which basically all schools offer.
But i'll remain firm that Stony Brook is one of the best SUNY schools. It's got a good environment conducive to studying.
Also I have a pre-med friend at Stony Brook majoring in English litt and psychology and she says its a amazing place.

However i'm not very familar with CUNY though.

Btw Mod's move this to HSDN

stony brook has its own medical school and hospital, so you could get some shadowing/networking going on there without having to leave campus. from what i hear, its also one of the strongest sunys (cept for binghamton) and its med school faculty are really nice. as for the cunys, i don't know anything about them. i guess also think about location and whether you'd be happier in a city area (cunys) vs. suburbs (stony)

Do not go to Hunter!! its horrible, science professors who teach here are horrible, are not willing to help and will hurt your grade. Avoid Hunter at all costs!!

I doubt there is a significant difference between the pre-med programs at the different schools. Go where you will be happiest.

Also, which program did you get accepted to at City College? There's a 5-year MD program there where you complete your pre-medical coursework and pre-clinical classes the first three years, and then move onto finishing your clinical rotations with either SUNY-Downstate, Darthmouth, Albany, or NYU. Obviously, if you got accepted to the Sophie Davis program... go there and save yourself the hassle.

As a SUNY alum, I'd say go to SB. Just be aware that a lot of students leave on the weekends and it can be a bit of a ghost town, so I've heard. Between City College or Hunter... I had a friend who studied bio at City College doing evolutionary studies and she really enjoyed it and has gotten amazing opportunities out of it (internship in Madagascar!!). But this is very dependent on what you want to study. "Pre-med" is just the required courses, but you can be whatever major you want. SB, as a university, will provide more diverse majors and course selection. If you're in the honors program at City College, I feel that's a much stronger science program than Hunter IMHO, but both schools are probably the two CUNY's one would want to go to. Hunter has a lot of commuters as well. City College will provide more of an NYU lifestyle, while SB will give you more of that collegiate experience. I could have went to NYU but I chose a SUNY due to how amazingly cheaper it is for the same education and opportunities, and because I wanted to experience university life on my own and something other than NYC after growing up there my whole life. Just a few things to keep in mind

Good luck with your future studies and which school you choose. It ultimately comes down to where you be happiest, as that's where you'll succeed best.

Cheers guys

I really appreciate all the advice.

Longshanks cool bro your a SB grad i wanted to go to SB but the dorms. I went to the admitted student day and the rooms were really small. Also i heard they triple you. Do you get better dorms as you become a soph etc...
btw could you commute ( i live in queens ) like is it reasonably ok time or does it take way to long ( LIRR or maybe car )

DoctorJay23 why do you say hunter is bad for pre medical? i know about 5 people who want to go hunter specifically for medicine ....

I say CCNY. It was the first of all the CUNY'S and i am an ALUMN.

Am I the only pervert who keeps misreading the acronym for this school? 😳

Excuse me.... I'm not an SB grad...😀
I went to one of upstate SUNY universities

So I can't help you with those questions.

I am assuming you didnt get into a "medical program" since hunter has none. Therefore i will assume you just got into the college and you want to know which will better prepare you. In my opinion they are all kind of equal in a sense, Stony Brook is higher ranked than the CUNYs. Becareful between Hunter and CCNY. CCNY has a lot of engineering programs, but hunter offers mostly BA degrees (even in Bio, Chem, Biochem, and Physics) which is not really an issue but it really depends on what you want to do. The Bio Chem Physics at hunter is pretty intense though, but i think all CUNYs are pretty much equal.

Im sure advising and organization at both Hunter and CCNY are not that great though, it might be hard for you to get in contact with people and get ahead without doing your own research.

Im curious, i dont see any perverted way of reading the acronyms, even though im curious about what you thought, you could have given some advice about college, maybe you didn't notice that the college acronyms were used over and over again for a reason. The kid needed some advice about college............I'm in the same boat as the kid.
