Hello! I was pre-MD from middle school all the way up until my 3rd year of college. Around my third year reality started to hit and I realized how much of my life I'd be giving up just to get into/finish med school and how much debt I would be going into. At that point I decided that PA would be a better decision financially and temporally. I graduated from UCSD with a BS in neuroscience and physiology in 3/2017. I'm currently working as a med scribe. The physician I work for is constantly trying to push me towards going to medical school as he thinks I'll be wasting my potential/education as a PA. I've been doing some soul searching and after "shadowing" the PA who works at our office I've been starting to seriously doubt that I'll be happy as a PA. I'm supposed to apply to PA school in around 5 months. However, I'm starting to think I should go back to the MD route. However, before I completely abandon PA I want to make sure I have a shot at MD.

As a neuro/physio major I took: genetics, metabolic biochemistry, molecular bio, biochemical techniques lab, human phys 1, human phys 2, human phys lab, endocrinology, bacteriology, cellular basis of learning and memory, full gen chem and ochem series, gen chem and ochem lab, full gen bio series, calc series, phys series. Overall GPA was 3.66, science GPA is probably similar. It's low due to math/physics mainly. But since UCSD is nearly entirely a STEM based school the GPAs are really deflated. A 3.66 at UCSD is actually considered really high but I don't know if the admission committees take stuff like that into account.

I have around 1500 hours working as a medical scribe. 200 hours working as a MA. I've been volunteering with Hospice patients for around 4 months. I have 2 years of working as a lab assistant during college. By the time I apply my patient hours will probably have doubled and I'll have a year of volunteer experience. I haven't done the MCAT yet. My friends that I studied with at UCSD all scored above the 95th percentile. So let's be generous and say I score around the 85th since I've been out of school for 9 months (and I'm horrible at physics). What are my chances at getting into a school in CA. And what are my chances of getting into any school overall.
