Would you recommend completing just the pre-requisites for Pharmacy School or obtain a Bachelors Degree before going to Pharm School?
I've heard both ways, and I just can't decide! 🙄 Help! 🙂

It depends on what you want to do. Completing just pre-reqs and applying will be faster. However, obtaining a Bachelors will be beneficial. It will look better to the addcomm when you apply and might open doors in the future.

I'd say to get a degree. You're already in school, why not make the most out of it.

With all the complaints about the job market, it appears that the quicker route is more beneficial in the long run.

Not necessarily. It depends on where the student is in their academic career.

If the student is in HS, inquiring about pharmacy school, by the time that the student applies, there's a larger possibility that a Bachelor's degree will be required. If the student is submitting PHARMCAS this fall, a Bachelor's may not be as necessary.

Quicker isn't always better ... Yes, that's what she said.

I have a meeting this tuesday to discuss the pre-reqs I've taken with the Pharm School I'll be applying for-- I'm concerned about how to answer them when they ask me what makes me stand out against those with BS/BA degrees.

It's a 3yr accelerated program.

So I'm trying to figure out how to say, "the common sense to minimize costs, while getting my degree quick enough to enter a job market that is supposedly becoming more saturated with each passing day", without coming off rude.

So I think I'll replace it with something along the lines of: "I'm so excited for your program that I just couldn't wait til undergrad was finished. Insert wikipedia facts about the pharmacy profession and the school throughout the rest of the conversation. Hopefully open a line of communication with the admissions office. Broaden that network a little.

The fact that life boils down to a mixture of luck and networking really killed my academic desire. I got a 4.0 last semester and when my family told me they were proud, I replied that they shouldn't be, because it's a big money making joke.

However, in response to the thread, make sure you rock your pre-reqs if you go that route, because you're less competitive than those with degrees.

Best of luck.
